AI Summary
This report analyzes the Hubble Telescope launch case, focusing on the project management failures and leadership styles as described by Charles Pellerin. It explores the challenges of ineffective project management, including poor communication, lack of trust, and inadequate risk management. The report examines different leadership styles, such as emotional and intuitive, as well as logical and sensing approaches, and their impact on project success. It also addresses the ethical issues that arose during the launch, such as design flaws and technical failures. The conclusion emphasizes the critical role of a good leader in ensuring project execution, timely completion, and the mitigation of ethical concerns. The report uses the Hubble Telescope as a case study to illustrate these points.

ANALYZIN HUBBLE TELESCOPE LAUNCH CASE
Introduction
Charles Pellerin is the writer of the book How NASA Builds Teams: Mission Critical Soft Skills
for Scientists, Engineers, and Project Teams and he write about the Hubble telescope launch case in
his book. He also describes the true leadership skills in his book. He removes the ethical issues that
arises and help the project to be complete successfully.
Leadership issues
Challenges that arises if the project manager ineffectively manages a project are:-
If the project manager is not available to meet the queries of the team members, staffs and
the workers then it can reflect in the project result or outcome. The project manager is
responsible for answering every question of the stakeholders and the members. This reflect
the poor leadership skill of the manager which can have adverse affect to the project [7].
If the team leader or the project manager do not show trust on its team members and the
staffs then this will make the team ineffective. An ineffective project manager without
consulting with the team members. This can lead to deadline miss of the project [8].
An ineffective project manager who lack experience can be unsuccessful to delegate
properly its team members and manage the situations.
An ineffective tem member cannot maintain good relationship with its team and is
insufficient to improve the performance of the team.
An ineffective team leader do not proactively manages the risks that are associated ith the
project.
They get failure to track requirements and change the processes that are essential to finish the work
in time and suffer lack of resources for completion of the project.
Leadership styles
The different leadership styles that are that are given by Charles J. Pellerin are as follows:-

Emotional and Intuitive leaders :- They are symbolized by “green” color. They are considered to be
very active in case of extreme complex project. This type of leaders build strong loyalty within the
peoples. They have strong gratitude towards the people and cares for the betterment of the team
members [1].
Emotional and sensing leaders:- These type of leaders help to manage large and complex projects
and market the project as well. The project manager create harmony within the team members and
mobilize the work flow of the team. This types of leaders also motivate those members of the team
to work who show less interest towards work. Thus the leader work taking all the team members
together [2].
Logical and intuitive leaders:- They are symbolized by “Blue color”. They do the innovative projects
and do the research work in the early phases of the project. They build new ideas and they fulfill
every commitment regarding the project. They expect their team members to work with excellence
to complete the project within the deadline and with the available resources.
Logical and sensing leaders:- They are symbolized by “orange color”. The project manager believes
in work to be completed within time more ruthlessly. The leader is highly disciplined and work in a
organized way. They expect that the team members will deliver the project within time irrespective
of hard times.
Project Success
According to Charles in his book the effective leaders are those who lead the team with
emotion. The “green” and “yellow” team leaders manages a team by maintaining a good relation
with the team members. These leaders work with the team, staff and the stakeholders foe the
success of the project. Though these type of leaders work with more emotion and less logical
abilities but the effectiveness of the “blue” and “orange” teams are not that much so that they can
be replaced. The team leaders need to show trust to it team members and ensure that they do their

work. Thus, the leaders who are not driven by the emotions need to develop a behavior that can
handle complex project genuinely.
Ethical issues
The ethical issues that arises during the launch of Hubble telescope are as follows:-
The system designer engineers do not met all the requirements of the design of the
telescope and an unfixable fault in the optical system arises.
The flaws in the parts of the telescope are ignored by the NASA team so there is a delay of
launching time [4].
The solar batteries and the other system are not satisfactory and no issues are brought up
about these facts [5].
The technical failure of the Hubble telescope is also due to poor leadership of the team
leader.
A good leader can improve the team work and can diminished the ethical issues. When
Charles Pellerin manage the project and finally abolish the flaws and fix the problems. These
lead to successful launching of the Hubble project.
Conclusion
So these can be concluded that for the successful completion of a project a good leader is
very important. A good leader can work with the team and ensure the project execution within
proper time and with the available resources. The removal of the ethical issues is very important
becausr that can cause delay of the execution. The Hubble telescope is an good example of these
type of project.
