Introduction
Background
Mental health is very important or can be said that it is equally important as physical health.
Mental health related problems can be arise in any generation whether old or young (Jensen and
et.al., 2019). This report will discuss the methods through which the research will get conducted
and also hypotheses. It will also shed light on the results of data analysis.
Aim
The aim of the research is to access the perspective towards mental health among old and young
generation people.
Objective
 To identify the concept of mental health.
 To analyse the relation between mental health with young and old generation people.
Research questions
 What is the concept of mental health?
 What is the relation between mental health with young and old generation people?
Rationale
To fix mental health has become problem nowadays. In young generation mental health issues
are more and constantly increasing. This research will helpful in knowing the importance of
mental health among young generation.
Mental health is the important aspect of life. If an individual want to live happy and
peacefully then it is essential that they focus on their mental health. Mental health is even more
important than physical health. If an individual gets physically hurt, then it will take less time for
recovery but he is hurt mentally then it will take more time to get recovered. Mental health of an
individual gets disturbed when he or she is doing through stress or depression. It is also seen that
mental health problems are more in young generation than older one (Holmes and et.al., 2020).
Young generation is taking stress is little things. Competition related to career has also become
the reason for stress among young generation. Although there are various remedies through

which mental health illness can be get rid off. As per the expert’s lifestyle is the biggest reason of
mental illness. So it is required that an individual should regular exercise and also should take
healthy diet. As it is famous saying that healthy person is the happy person.
Research question is grounded in social psychology theory with hypothesis
All research questions are related to social psychology in which researcher needs to
identify whether mental health is an issue or not as per the different perspective on the basis of
age group. People of older age thinks that mental health is not an issue and people with mental
health needs to be given rights as like normal people. Whereas, young age group of thinks that
mental health is an issue and people with this issue needs to be treated with special care and by
considering research question, decision can be taken by scholar.
H0: There is no relationship between general issue and mental health
H1: there is relationship between mental health and general issue
On the basis of discussion and test's outcome, it is found that mental health is an issue
that affect people to the great extent. This is one of the main basis of discrimination. People in
society members discriminate people with mental health problems and do not treat them in a fair
and equal manner. There are some special rights for people who are suffering from mental health
problems. It proves alternative hypothesis and on the basis of this, it can clearly be said that
mental health is an issue and it should be considered while providing treatment and dealing with
such people.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research type: Research type refers a type or form in which data needs to be collected.
Researcher can collect data either in numbers form or in text form (Ridout and Campbell, 2018).
When data are being collected in numbers form then it is known as quantitative. When data are
being gathered in the form of text and feelings then it is known as qualitative. For this study,
researcher has conducted quantitative research and all data has been collected in numbers form.
Research approach: It is of two types which is inductive research approach and deductive
research approach. This current investigation is done using deductive approach because this
approach is always been used when doing quantitative research.
Data collection: After selecting the type of research, scholars need to decide the type of data
collection. Primary and secondary are 2 data collection types. In primary, first hand data are
being gathered by conducting questionnaire, survey and interview. In secondary, literature

review is being conducted by gathering data from books and journals where data have published
already. For taking decision and knowing that mental health is an issue or not, researcher has
gathered both primary and secondary data (Kretzschmar and et.al, 2019). For primary,
questionnaire has conducted and for secondary, literature has conducted.
Sampling: Sampling refers a process of selecting target people that are also known as
sample. There are 2 sampling methods by which researcher can select samples such as: random
and non-random. Random sampling method is the one in which people are being selected
randomly without any set criteria. Whereas, in non-random, participants are being selected with
set selection criteria. Selection of type of sampling depends on the nature of research topic. As in
this study, researcher wants to know about perspectives of young age group and old age group of
people regarding mental health so, for this researcher wants to select people of both group. So,
researcher has selected non-random and people with 15-70 age group has been targeted.
Data analysis: After collecting data from both primary and secondary sources, researcher
needs to analyse data in order to make decision and getting positive outcomes. There are 2 data
analysis tools such as: qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data analysis tool is being selected
when researcher has conducted qualitative research or data in the form of nonnumerical. It is two
types i.e thematic test technique and SPSS (Kwong and et.al., 2021). This research is conducted
using SPSS because it is qualitative research and this tool is helpful in giving information in
figures.
Research ethics: in order to make sure that research has conducted ethically reference list is
attached at the end of the research so that it can be proved that information is taken for relevant
sources. Consent form is also made filled by respondents.
Research limitations:
Time and money are the biggest limitation. Due to lack of time research is done only by using
quantitative method and not the mixed method.

interpretation:
from the above tables it can be interpreted that out of 20 respondents majority of respondents
belongs to the age group 15-45 which is 11 and there are 9 respondents which are belonging to
the age group which is 46-70. after completing chi square test, it is showing that mental health is
the issue because the value which denote that it is an issue is coming positive and the value

which says that it is not an issue is coming negative. as the residual value which says that it is an
issue is coming 2 and the value which says that it is not an issue is coming as -2. mental health
have become serious illness in today’s world. and mostly young generation is facing this
problem. there are various ways through which it can be cured like meditation, exercise etc.

from the above table it can be observed that out 20 respondents 10 agree, 5 strongly disagree, 3
disagree and 2 strongly disagree. majority of people said that mental health issue has treatment
and it can be completely cure (Lattie, Lipson and Eisenberg, 2019).
Discussion
From the above result it can be discussed that mental health is the serious issue and mostly young
generation is facing this issue as compared to older one. majority of people which belongs to
young generation said that mental health is the serious issue and it should not be taken lightly.
while old age people feels that mental health cannot be considered as an issue. they said that
mental health is just the view point to see any situation (Gerino and et.al., 2017). They further
said that viewpoint is considered as an mental issue but the term mental issue cannot exist in real
world. Young generation is facing this issue more because in this competitive world there has lot
of stress which can be related to career, family etc. although there are remedies through which
mental issue can be treated. Like exercise, meditation, yoga, listening to music etc. an individual
who is suffering from any kind of mental problem should practice exercise daily and should also
intake healthy food. They should have proper lifestyle and should stop in taking alcohol or hunk
food. If the issue of mental illness rises then an individual can even go for medical treatment.
There are various therapies which is done by doctors so that patient can be treated. Stress and
depression also comes under mental problem. Mental issue is increasing day by day so it is
important that strict actions must be taken against such issue.

The biggest question which arises that why mental health has becoming severe problem day by
day. It is increasing because young generation have become habit of taking stress for every
single thing. It is also increasing because young people is not following good or healthy lifestyle.
They are taking their lifestyle lightly. This generation is also not taking sleep properly. Sleep is
also considered as the problem and is the factor of mental illness. Majority of respondents agree
that mental health is curable. If mental heath issue is detected at the initial stage only then it can
cure with the help of home remedies only but it is not detected at initial stage then doctor is
required to cure this issue. Hence, if an individual work on their lifestyle and live happy life
without any stress then he or she will never face such problem in their lifetime (Horackova and
et.al., 2019). It is even observed that mental health is presented like it is the biggest health
problem but reality is not like this. If people will follow what their doctor is saying or focus to
live healthy life then they will never face this problem. There is alternative hypothesis (H1)
which shows that there is relationship between age and mental health. As the age group 15-45 is
having more health related issues as compared to the age group 46-70 years. Young people are
having this issue more then old age group.
Conclusion
Through this report it can be concluded that mental health is very important nowadays to live
healthy and happy life. It is observed that mental health related issues are common in young
generation as compared to old one. This research is conducted using qualitative method and
SPSS is conducted to gather research information.
