Question: Is the ability of individuals to work in a team important and how is
collaboration encouraged. Or is privacy an issue that precludes
collaboration?
ANSWER:
Every global organisation’s competitive advantage is highly depended on
coordination and collaboration of team members working for the organisation. Currently,
there are myriad organisational mechanisms through which global companies integrate
dispersed teams. The most effective tool that provides organisations in managing firm’s
resources is team building in which every individual team member play an important role.
Different people working in cross border operation may belong to different culture that
comes mutually to synchronize few aspects of multinational manoeuvre on global basis.
Exploiting economies in global scale becomes impossible for global companies as maximum
number of team members can transfer knowledge and cultivate global mind-set along with
understanding the needs of global management functions through developed collaborated
teams (Mustafa & Geo, 2017).
There is no doubt that individual efforts are highly responsible for working in a team
as each individual becomes equally responsible for success of a global team. The significance
of global team cannot be denied in contemporary global organisations as they provide with
quality work which is difficult to be gained from individuals. Perhaps, every individual in a
global team comprises of special abilities for which they are selected as a team member.
Every team member becomes a part of organisational success and is taught by their mentors
to offer different perspectives based on individual learning experiences in their professional
career. Therefore it can be said that individual ability is important while working in teams
(Algashaam, 2015). Since every individual encompasses different capabilities and ideas, it

makes significant for global companies forming a collaborated team to realise organisational
objectives.
One of the factors that contribute success behind global companies is through
collaboration among team members. With emerging trends, impacts of globalisation can be
seen upon international organisations for which they are considering to encourage team
collaboration to remain ahead of the game. In order to promote health safety of employees
and increased productivity, working with teams has became latest trend in international
management of companies as it provides work effectiveness along with making employees
feel responsible towards the firm (Gratton & Erickson, 2007). After understanding the
emerging trend, global companies can encourage team collaboration that can shift individual
responsibility to teams while supporting and motivating team members.
With this shift, new emerging trends can be discovered by collaborative work and
organisational work can become more framed, enabled and resourced. With collaboration of
teams even centrally controlled works and programmatic tasks can be avoided and thus team
members gets encouraged for providing best and continuous efforts for giving high value
initiatives. Once the process of collaboration is established, the leaders of the global firm’s
resources teams with right proportion of capable team members who are experts in different
fields that even helps to boost team capacity. Stability in work force guides and offers
underpinning for collaborative team work and thus alliance is encouraged in every team
member (Scott, 2012).
Awareness of current activities of team colleagues is significant for providing
effective collaborative team work, especially in global companies where team members are
distributed geographically. Systems seek to capture and provide permit for pertinent data to
raise awareness about collaborative activities which requires dealing with problematic issues

of privacy. Due to complexity in nature, privacy remains undefinable although dealing with
privacy concerns remains essential in designing collaborative teams (Patil & Kobsa, 2005).
Collaborative technologies promises providing with improved team work and enhanced
communication between team members but, it take the limelight in privacy concerns among
team members (Paproski & Haverkamp, 2000). But overall team collaboration is highly
supported by global companies as it has got more advantages to be considered.
According to researchers, the relationship between employees can bring negative or
positive communication system in workplace that effects individual employee’s performance.
Trust level depends on relationship maintained by team members which further decides upon
scale in which personal and professional data can be shared. The collaboration between team
members is therefore encouraged to gain positive communication between them so that
privacy issue does not preludes team collaboration. Based on academic reviews and various
research’s the positive influence of team members depends largely on individual efforts and
thus global organisations makes critical analysis about team formation so that effective
collaboration between them avoids negative impact of emerging trends (Salman & Hassan,
2016). It is apparent that global companies are encouraging team building and are focussing
upon collaboration between team members to improve morale, productivity and job
satisfaction among them. The establishment of global teams determines success and
challenges faced by companies for which they encourage team collaborations that can fulfil
present business needs.
