Organizational behavior is related to the study of the different behavior of people interacting
in the same groups. This theory is applied to the organizations to make the employees more
efficient and profitable with the help of each other (Memari, et al., 2013). There are various
organizational theories which can be applied by the management to maximize the results
from individual group members. In this case study, we are going to get an overview that how
organizational behavior and its theories are applied in order to get maximum return from
employees. This study defines my experience of teamwork where I have applied theories of
organizational behavior and got positive results. The essay contains details about the task,
team members, their responsibilities and their efforts to perform those responsibilities. At the
end of the essay, a conclusion has been drawn showing the understanding of need and
importance of organizational behavior (Kang, et al., 2010).
I used to work in a company named Fresher's Spa, a hair salon providing a variety of spa
treatments including hair treatment, body massages, scrubs, and warps. It also used to provide
a range of cosmetics products through its retail outlets. It had its headquarters in the city
having a population of more than 3 lacs people in the United Kingdom. Illa Fitzgerald was
the owner and founder of the business. She was a beautician and massage therapist. She hired
Andria Thomson as the general manager of the salon. Along with Andria, there was three hair
stylist and one therapist was the initial workers of the salon. Andria was the main advisor of
Illa in salon related matters. All the here hair stylist was perfect in their works and used to
help one another in the day to day operations of the salon. The therapist was the young one
among all the staff of salon but she was the most talented person in the salon. She also knew
about the facial treatments and hair massages which she used to do in case of more
customers. I was working over there as one of the main hairstylists and I also used to lead the
other hair stylists and the therapists work. I also used to handle all the finance-related day to
day working. All our team members were very cooperative with each other and used to help
each other for the purpose of growth of the business. Designations and responsibilities of the
members can be understood by considering following hierarchy:

Once our salon receives a big contract related to the make-up of 25 models for a fashion
show. We all were very happy and started our planning according to the requirements of the
client. But our team has to face the worst situation when two hairstylists except me met with
an accident just a day before of fashion show. It was a very critical situation for our team
because both of them had the fracture in their legs and was unable to walk. There was no any
solution for the problem because we could not arrange any extra hair stylist within such a
short notice.
This was an uncertain situation for our team that could result very badly the output of our
teamwork in the fashion show. Then Illa decided to not to take a back step and she motivated
all the team members including me so that we could do our jobs in a better way (Kanfe &
Chen, 2016).
At last, the day of our most difficult exam arrived and we did not have our two hair stylists.
But rest of us made a strategy that if we would go in the show before some time that we
might get some more time to deliver our best. We all followed this strategy and request our
client to allow us to come before some time. I and my team reached there with all our
preparations. Although it was tough for us to work without our two main hair stylist. But
Andria, Illa, I and our therapist did our job with all of our efforts. This resulted in a positive

manner for us. All the models were ready on time. Although some of them were not happy
with their hairstyles we made them satisfied with desired changes by their stylist.
All the make-up, hairstyles were liked by the sponsors of the show as well as by the viewers.
We received our payment on time. Although the output of our team efforts was satisfied but
we could do better if the situational factors had supported us. It was difficult to manage such
a big event without main hair stylist, but our teamwork and leadership style of our team
leader was very effective in handling the situation (Robbins, et al., 2013).
But for next time, I would like to opt for the situational theory of organizational behavior.
This theory says that the leader and his team must always be prepared for the uncertain events
and situations that can impact their running projects and their output (Meier, 2016). In above
situation, if we had a backup plan like extra makeup artists and hairstylist, then it would be
easy to handle the situation up to some extent. Although it was not the fault of anyone but In
order to face such challenges, it is the duty of a leader to prepare a backup plan for any type
of circumstance (Champoux, 2016).
On the basis of above essay, it can be concluded that organizational theories and practices can
be applied in all type of situations in a team. A sound understanding between team members
and their leaders is necessary to apply those theories. The essay also concludes that it is
necessary to develop an extra plan for uncertain events because adverse situations can be
occurred at any time and may result badly in the group efforts. In above case study, the team
got success and positive results because of a sound understanding of organizational behavior
which includes identification of behavior of team members and makes them work
accordingly in different situations. Understanding of organizational behavior gives positive
results and also ensures the success of the organization in long run.
