To analyse the challenges of integrating emerging technologies within Little Chef
restaurant.
Overview
Technologies are emerging on a wider extent and are actually acting successfully in
increasing the overall speed of operations in a way that it can affect all processes and, thus
achieving a higher rate of popularity as well as productivity (Hellweg andCanals, 2014). For
small and medium sized companies, the involvement of digital technology can prove beneficial
but for them, there are various challenges that are associated with it and these may involve
factors like cost, resources etc. Although the fact is true that there are various opportunities
associated with the involvement and implementation of digital technology but, there are various
challenges that one has to face during the emerging of technologies in the Little chef restaurant.
Aim
To analyse the challenges of integrating emerging technologies within Little Chef
restaurant.
Objectives

Rationale
There has been observed various issues that have been faced by the small and medium
sized organisations regarding the rate of the processing of the operations, so there is actually the
need for focusing upon the opportunities as well as the challenges with the emerging new
technologies. For Little chef as well, although there can be various benefits from the
implementation of the digital technology but at the same time, there are various factors that may

act as a challenge during the implementation of these technologies. Therefore, for analysing the
challenges effectively so that proper and preventive measures can be taken in account so that it
can help in resolving the issues as soon as possible, so that it can throw a positive impact on the
processing of the operations. This will also help Little chef to focus on achieving their outcomes

Challenges associated with the emerging technologies
Although it is obvious that there are many benefits and opportunities of using and
implementing the digital technology but there are enormous number of challenges as well that
are associated with the same. As in case of any organisation, when they involve the digital
technology in order to maximize overall rate of the processing, they should also ensure this fact
that the employees must not be aware of using it etc. So, in such cases, there might be the
possibility that the employees can push back. On the basis of the fact that whether they will be
able to do it or not, they can push back and leave restaurant (Neuhofer and Buhalis, 2014). So,
this can be considered as one of the challenging factor that can throw an impact on the popularity
and productivity rate of the firm.
Another factor that can act challenging is considered as the cost. It is because in
implementation of digital technologies in an organisation, the implementation cost is quite
expensive and for small and medium sized organisations like Little chef, it is quite difficult to
arrange that much amount. Although after the implementation, processing is quite easy but for a
proper implementation, a high cost is required. Lack of digitization strategy can also be
considered as a challenging factor because if the organisation does not have proper ways and
techniques of making use of the technologies involved, then it can be considered as a waste of
time.
So, along with the involvement of digital technologies, it is very important that there
should be proper ways and techniques of using the same in order to make an effective use of it.
Otherwise, this cannot be classified as much beneficial factor for the firm. Availability of
resources is also considered as an important factor because with emergence of the digital
technology, availability of the other resources is also very essential to cope with the requirements
of the technologies. Also, a proper amount of support from the co workers is very important
because lack of support from the co workers and employees may also act as a challenge for the
organisation. With the emergence of new technologies, these are various factors to be

considered. Some well known examples of this includes developing sessions for training of
employees and this can involve a huge amount of cost, maintaining the quality of the outcomes,
managing security concerns etc. So, with the emergence of integrated technologies, there might
be the possibility that the organisation have to face major challenging barriers such as cost,
support etc. from team members and other employees of the organisations, so these can throw a
major impact on the operations and processing of the operations and services of the firm. So, it is
very important to consider the fact that with the emergence of new technologies, there are
enormous number of opportunities and along with that, there are an equal number of challenges
as well which needs to be ensured by the company in achieving a sort of balance between
different operations of the organisation.
Impact of challenges on operations of Little Chef
When there will be the factors that actually act as a barrier or challenge during the
emergence of integrated technologies, then it is obvious that this will have a direct impact on the
operations of Little Chef as well. As cost can be considered as a major factor, so if Little chef
does not have an appropriate rate of sources from where they can have an appropriate amount of
cost, so this can act as a challenging measure for Little chef to implement the digital technology.
It is because for an effective involvement of the technology in the restaurant, a proper cost is
required. Without an efficient amount of cost, it is quite difficult to involve all the operations
properly (Hellweg andCanals, 2014). So, Little chef can focus on taking financial help by the
means of banks, loans etc. so that they can be able to implement the digital technology in a way
so that it can help in increasing rate of the operations and processes. Lack of strategies is another
challenging factor that can throw a huge impact on the operations of Little chef as well. It is
because if the Little chef restaurant achieves financial help, then it is important that they should
have proper ways of using the technologies so that it can result effective enough. Even if after
the implementation of the digital technology in the Little chef restaurant, the may not have
proper techniques and strategies to implement it, then it can be classified as wastage of time as
well as resources.
So, it is very important that Little chef restaurant must have a proper rate of strategies and
techniques so that they can make well use of the digital technology and can be able to achieve
outcomes efficiently and appropriately. Also, this is obvious that the employees will not be
aware of using the technologies, so there is a possibility that in learning the implementation, they

might took a huge amount of time and this will however suffer the operations of the restaurant.
Therefore, for resolving this issue, the Little chef restaurant can ensure to provide proper training
and orientation sessions so that it can help the employees to be aware of the ways of using the
same so that they may not waste a huge amount of time in learning these. Rather, with the help
of training sessions, they will learn it faster and it will further prove beneficial enough for the
Little Chef restaurant to achieve their objectives. So, these challenges can actually throw an
impact on the operations of the Little chef, so proper preventive measures can be taken in order
to control these barriers and resolve the same so that Little chef can be able enough to focus on
achieving their targets and goals at much faster rate.
Research Methodology
Research is considered as a proper and structured way of collecting the data and then
making its use in a way that it can seem effective enough to be used in the research. Research
methodology is classified as a way of analysing and then using specific information to be used in
the research for achieving appropriate results. There are various different aspects of the research
methodology and these are discussed as under :
Research philosophy
Research philosophy is considered as a way that helps researcher in analysing the way in
which the information should be collected and used (Han, Gopalakrishnan and Lee, 2015). There
are variosu ways in which the research philosophy can be classified and these involve realism,
positivism, interpritivism, ontology etc. In case of positivism, the information is usually highly
structured whereas in case of the realism, the way of choosing information should be in a way
that can seem suitable. Interpritivism deals with the smaller range of samples. In this research,
the researcher makes involvement of the positivism philosophy because the involvement of
positivism can actually help the researcher to analyse the challenges with the emerging new
technologies more effectively.
Data Analysis
Analysing data is the most crucial part of study in which the focuses of researcher is on
interpreting collected data. It is the base for the study from which the scholar aims at drawing
final conclusion to study. There are two types of data analysis method that is qualitative and
quantitative where quantitative analysis is done in quantifying measure with the of mathematical

tool. With the help of this quantitative analysis the data is analysed in numerical terms. However,
there is qualitative analysis in which the data in analysed in descriptive form with the helps of
these, graphs, images etc. Thus, in this study the scholar will make use of qualitative analysis
where the interpretation will be support by themes and graphical presentation.
Research approach
Approach to study helps in analysing information in different and unified ways in order
to develop critical understanding over research topic. In this the approach to study will be based
on developing understanding on the challenges of integrating emerging technologies within
Little Chef restaurant. There are two types of research approaches that is inductive and
deductive. Thus, in this study the researcher will make use of inductive approach which the help
which the person will be able to analyse data with the help logical and analytical reasoning.
Data Collection
Data collection is considered as a way of collecting the data and information. The data
collection can be simply classified in two types, either by the primary way or by the secondary.
In case of the primary collection of data, it is being gathered for the first time whereas in case of
the secondary data, the information is being gathered by some other body. In this case, the
gathered information can be used in the present study by the researcher. There are various
sources of doing the same as different means of primary data involves focused groups, surveys
etc. whereas sources of secondary data can be considered as online, books etc. In this research,
the researcher will use the primary sources of data because it will help in analysing better the
influence of challenges associated with the emerging technologies.
Research limitations
Research limitations can be considered as some factors that can act as a sort of limitation
or complication in any process of the research (Chen and Zhang, 2014). Like in case if the
deadline of the research is extended by the research, the fact that is to be ensured is that along
with the time, availability of all other factors required is important as well such as the cost etc. It

is because if there will not be the availability of cost, it will act as a limitation for the rest of the
research. So, it is efficient if the researcher completes the whole research in the specified time
period only so that there may not be the possibility of any such factor acting as a challenge or
barrier for the functions of the research.
Sampling
Sampling is considered as a method of collecting the data and information from a sample
of interest. There are variosu aspects in which the sampling can be classified into and these
involve simple random sampling, systematic sampling, cluster sampling, stratified sampling etc.
In case of simple random sampling, the people for the sample are selected randomly. There is no
specific criteria for the same (Boddy, McCalman and Buchanan, 2018). In stratified sampling,
the people are being divided in groups for making it more clear. In case of systematic sampling,
the value which occurs after a fixed interval, is being selected. In case of cluster sampling,
different samples of people act as the clusters and from these clusters, people are being selected
for further collection of data. In this research, the researcher will make use of the simple random
sampling because this will help in analysing the impact of different challenges of digital
technology in Little chef restaurant.
Ethical considerations
Ethical consideration are the base of the study and is the foremost responsibility of
researcher which needs to be considered. Ethics consideration in this study will be focused on
respondents and their participation in interview. The researcher will ensure that no individual is
forced to share any personal information. Further, the scholar will enable reliable and appropriate
references to entire study. Moreover, to make it more authentic the investigator will cite every
necessary information in order to protect confidentiality of information. Following these ethics
will help the scholar the in maintaining effective and authenticity of study.

CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the report that as there are different opportunities associated
with the digital technology, there are various challenges as well. Different objectives have been
discussed for analysing the topic more efficiently and in an appropriate way. Different aspects of
the research methodology have been discussed for making the research more effective. As there
are enormous number of challenges with the emerging technologies, so the Little chef can ensure
to make involvement for proper preventive measures in order to resolve the issues, thus focusing
on an efficient and appropriate rate of popularity as well as productivity.
