INTRODUCTION
Business functions may be define as the different activities which are carried out by the
employees of the organisation on order to achieve the set objectives of the business(Chatterjee,
Ying and Vishwanath, 2020). Business functions are divided into two parts core functions and
the supportive function. Core business functions of the business are those which yields the
incomes like production, sales, etc. and supportive functions are those which support the core
business functions like distribution, after sales service. The following report covers the
information about the different business functions of the TESCO plc. The company is
multinational retail brand of UK founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen. The headquarters of the
organisation are situated in England. This report also covers the importance of all the business
functions related to the respective company.

Role of Marketing: The main role of the marketing department is to different needs and wants
of the potential consumer and promote the goods and services of the organisation. The main
functions of this department are advertising, promoting, market research and sales. In relation to
TESCO, the marketing department of the company use different strategies and tactics like
marketing mix or digital marketing in order to communicate with the customer and increase the
customer base.
Role of Finance:- The main roe of this department id to manage the funds for the company.
They also deal with all the functions of the business which is related to money and manage the
accounts of the business. The main function of the finance department are raising funds,
reporting budgets and preparing the accounts(Dai and Wang, 2019). In relation to TESCO, this
department of the company deals with the salaries of the staff members and manage the accounts
of debtors and creditors. This department also raise the short term and long term fund for the
company when needed.
Role of Operation/Production:- The main role this department is to convert the raw material
purchased by the company into the finished goods through different process. The responsibility
of this department is to manage the quality and designs of the products according to the need and

demand of the customer. In relation to TESCO, this department maintain the quality of the
product and services of the company and also manage the stock level.
Role of Human Resource:- The main role of this department is to manage the workforce for the
company. They are responsible for hiring the talented people for the organisation according to
the need of the different department. In relation to the TESCO, this department of the company is
responsible for recruiting the right people with right skill and knowledge. They are also
responsible for developing training and development programme for the employees.
Importance of all the functions while working together:-
Different business functions plays a very important role for each other within the business. As
the HR department select the potential staff for different department of the organisation.
Marketing department identify the need and demand so that production department make the
product according to the requirement(Li and Liu, 2020). If any one of the department doesn't
perform his work properly then consequences will have to face by all other areas of business.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that different functional area of business has its own roles
and responsibility and all the department of the organisation work together in order to achieve
the set goals and objective of the business. This report also concluded the role of different
department in relation to TESCO plc and their importance while working together. Good
communication within the organisation result in success of the business.
