University refers to an institution that delivers the higher education to the students. Also,
this institution enables the students to get their degree and shaping their career in effective
manner. University provides the Undergraduate, Graduate & Postgraduate degrees to the
students (Pereira, Vilas-Boas and Rebelo, 2020). There are various stakeholders involved in the
university. These stakeholders refer to that person that are highly interest in the working
procedure of the university. The stakeholders are the Students, parents, staff, government,
community groups, external bodies, government and professionals. Opening new university is
not an easy task as it involves various important aspects.
It is highly important for the higher education department to meet the requirement of each
stakeholder as it provides the over-all impact on the performance and outcomes of the university
(Al Pop and et.al., 2020). Therefore, it is mandatory to analyse the need and then, the decision
has to be form on the basis of that. Establishing a new university in a large city is concerned with
the number of challenges as already there are existing universities. The current study revolves
around analysing the major impacts of establishing new university in large city. The report will
critically analyse the aspects along with this, the major recommendations that leads to generate
the benefit for the university will also be highlighted in the report. In university, there are large
number of students and all of them possess different degrees.
Thus, this report will analyse the Impacts on the Tourism, Hospitality & event industries.
Also, the Environmental and Social Impacts will also be mentioned. The report will show how
these aspects creates the impact over the university and on the city where the university has to be
established. Furthermore, the report will provide the recommendations that ensures the benefit to

all the stakeholders and assures the success to the university. The major aim of the report is to
review the impacts of opening a new university in a large city.

Opening a new university in a large city leads to provide the impact over the city and to
the university as well. There are numerous opportunities available in opening up of university
and the numerous challenges as well. If the university is opening in large city then it creates the
major impact over the tourism hospitality and event industries and those are mentioned below:
Impact over the city as a tourist destination
Tourist destination organizes the large number of Events. As number of students from the
various part of the world leads to take admission in university. As a result, students involves in
the operations of the city such as, involving in event and hosting and organizing the events.
Thus, it leads to generate more revenue for city. Especially, universities involves students in the
various kind of event who are studying degree in tourism, hospitality and event. So, the students
can have the practical knowledge of organizing events (Ogbeide, Fu and Cecil, 2020). Thus, the
city as a tourist destination creates the benefits for university and university also creates the
benefit for city by involving students in them. However, in such city government makes high
interruption in the university as it involve in event that are hosting in city.
Dynamics in the type of events that are hosted in the city
Different types of events has been hosted in a city such as, Music concert, seminars, VIP
events and so on. Establishment of university in such city where the large number of event takes
place often leads to distract students from their goal. Students join university in terms of having
theoretical and practical knowledge equally (Millar, and Park, 2018). However, only involving
students in events lead to distract their focus over theoretical knowledge as well. The focus of the
students is only made upon hosting events. On the other hand it creates opportunities for student
as well as they get the chance of hosting events.

Potential utilisation of university facilities for hospitality purpose
New university is concerned with the developed campus that provides facility for
hospitality purpose as well. Number of events has been takes place in the campus of university.
Excessive use of university campus leads to vanish the available resources of university and
provides impact to the stakeholders such as, students, staff and higher authorities. Excessive
using of campus can create disturbance for students (Horng, Hsu and Tsai, 2019). Also, the
students may feel exhausted. Thus, this leads to create a big challenge for university as it is
important to focus on students academic aspects.
The environmental impacts
Currently, it is highly important to assures a keen focus over saving environmental as
community that is one of the biggest group of stakeholder is highly keen about it. Establishment
of university needs to construct campus and building. Thus, it assures the impact over
environment management in city. The major environmental impacts of opening university in
large city are highlighted below:
Influence over the city's carbon footprint
Carbon emission involve in atmosphere leads to create the global warming and drastic
changes in climate. In the making of university, the construction procedure needs to be
performed. Thus, there is a high possibility large amount of emission of pollution takes place
while constructing building (Balaram, 2019). This further provide impact over city's carbon
footprint. For example: city such as, London highly follow green environmental policy thus, in
such situation excessive carbon emission creates negative impact over environmental and work
as a threat for university as well. Before implementation of university, the image of university in
front of the public leads to portray in a negative attribute due to creation of harm towards
environmental.
Opportunities available for sustainable building and design
The university can often grab the opportunities for larger development within using
sustainable building and design concept. This refers to using those sources of energy that are

renewable. This enables in performing green building concept. Often, this reduces interruption of
government as well. Also, people in city where university establishes start assuring higher value
to university (Scheidel and et.al., 2020). Thus, capturing opportunities of sustainable building
and design leads to increase the benefits for the university. Often it helps in attracting number of
students.
Environmental impact of construction work that is mandatory
There are large number of construction activities needs to be done in designing a building
and the campus of university needs to be designed in such manner that makes everything ease for
students. However, the making of campus leads to create large number of pollution in
environmental. This provides impact over the various stakeholder in the city such as,
government, public, environmentalist and so on. Often, resources of the city has been utilised in
the process of making building (Olander, S., 2007). This often creates situation of decreasing the
resources. Hence, the keen observation by environmentalist has been made over the activities of
construction. The environmental impacts of mandatory construction activity involves pollution in
environmental and vanishing of resources.
The social impacts
Social impact refers to the impact of an activity over the community and well-being of
people. There are numerous social impacts in opening new university in the large city and those
have been mentioned below:
Changes towards demographic of area
New university leads to attract large number of students and learners from different part
of world. Especially, when university is opened in developed city then, it attracts students. As a
result, the population of the city has been increased. As number of students approaches
university and lives in that city where university is established. This results in increasing
population and distribution in existing resources of city among new and existing population (Wal
and Wilhelm, 2019). However, it often creates the issues regarding uneven distribution of

resources or creates pressure over city in terms of approaching more resources so needs of
students can be managed. Thus, this one of the challenging task in implementation of university.
Increased in the education opportunities
University creates larger opportunities in terms of educational development. Often,
ensure personal and professional development to students. It leads to create the positive impact
over the group of students in society. Furthermore, the literacy rate of city shows positive
change. Thus, university gets the benefit from this as effective facilities in university leads to
increase educational opportunities. Number of students takes admission in university and this
enables university to experience maximum number of benefits. Also, this creates the benefits for
the people who are seeking for higher studies. This social impact has been determined as positive
that contributes in creating effective goodwill of university in city.
Challenges related to crime, health and safety
There so a high threat in relation of crime, health and safety and these issues creates huge
impact over society and students as well. Large number of students studies in university. Some
students are highly conscious about their studies and some get distracted and follow the path of
drug addiction, theft and so on. It is due to the involvement of students in the activities of city.
This results in creating threat towards the future of students (Baessler and et.al., 2021). Also, it
affects the safety attributes of students. Thus, if city is concerned with effective legislation then,
this issues can be solved. However, it often creates impact over students. Thus, opening a
university is just not limited to designing building. It is a wider concept that involves numerous
parameters.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that, in order to open a new university in a
large city there are large number of parameters and attributes has to be taken in consideration. As
all of these parameters and attributes plays crucial role in establishment of the university.
Furthermore, students who are pursuing degree in tourism and event management for them, the
impacts over the tourism, hospitality and event has been highlighted. Along with this, the

environmental impacts has been mentioned that has to be taken in consideration while opening
university. Lastly, the recommendations has been made over reviewing negative impacts that
arise in opening of new university. Thus, the report has come over the final conclusion and that
is, analysing each impact in effective manner results in establishment of university in effective
manner. Also, it has been known that, establishment of new university is a wider concept that
involves numerous aspects that are affecting different stakeholders.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Here are the major recommendations in terms of opening new universities in a large city:
Utilisation of campus in limited manner
The university must assure focus over providing the campus in terms of hosting events
and for hospitality purpose in limited manner. So, the students can not get disturb on a higher
note and easily makes focus over their studies as it is important to shape the mind of students
towards their goal.
Balance among practical and theoretical aspects
It is highly important to make a keen focus over balancing practical and theoretical
parameters. It should not be like this that, students is only focusing over gaining practical
knowledge by taking part in number of events (Kaplan, 2021). Also, the focus over assuring
theoretical attributes to the students has to be made. As it is the accountability of university that
they must look upon all aspect in equal manner.
BREAAM standard
This refers to the set standard that is used in analysing the major parameters that involves
in making of new building and impact environment. This has been considered as one of the best
method that evaluates the building is green or not (Romano and Riediger, 2019). Thus, it means
the building has been proven environmental-friendly or nor. This method can be used in opening
of new university in large city. Considering this method within developing building assures less
impact over environment. As a result, no harmful threat has been created over environment.

Inclusive environment and strict policies
University must assure culture learning and inclusive environment so, the students can
get the source of motivation. Often, this leads to impact the mind of student in positive manner.
As a result, the character of students shapes in professional manner. Also, threats regarding
distraction from path can be resolved with help of this. Counselling must be assured to learners
so, they can share their issues. There is a chance of bullying in new university where students
come from different city. Thus, university must implement strict policy in against of this. So, the
social impacts can be shape in positive manner despite of discouraging students and taking them
towards negative path.
