Report
AI Summary
This report provides an overview of various smartphone operating systems, focusing on Android, Bada, Blackberry, iPhone OS (iOS), MeeGo, and Symbian. It highlights the security differences between Android and iOS, arguing that iOS is more secure due to its privacy measures, stricter app security, and controlled software updates. The report discusses how Android's open-source nature and reliance on Google servers can compromise user privacy, while iOS offers greater restrictions and in-depth security. Frequent updates in Android can also create vulnerabilities, unlike the more controlled update system in iOS. Desklib offers access to similar reports and study resources for students.

Different Operating Systems of Smart Phones
The most common operating systems that are used in the smart phones are described
below:
1. Android Operating System: The android is the most common operating system and is
open to Google (Novac et al. 2017). Android OS is the software stack which includes
middleware and the key applications that are needed for the mobile device.
2. Bada Operating System: This operating system is used in Samsung mobile phones. The
features that are provided this operating system is 3D graphics, multipoint-touch and installation
as well as application downloads.
3. Blackberry Operating System: This operating system was first developed by the
Research In Motion for using the popular BlackBerry devices. This platform is very popular with
corporate users as it synchronizes with Microsoft Exchange, Novell GroupWise or Lotus
Domino.
4. iPhone Operating System: This operating system is mainly used by the iPhone devices
and is referred to as the iOS. This OS supports a number of Apple devices including iPhone,
iPod Touch and many others.
5. MeeGo Operating System: This operating was developed merging two products of
open source technologies. The products are Maemo and Mobin (Nokia and Intel). This OS is
designed for working on devices that includes smartphones, tablets, and netbooks.
6. Symbian Operating System: This operating system is mainly targeted on the
smartphones that has high integration level along with communication as well as PIM (Personal

Information Management) functionality (Shaw et al. 2016). Symbian combines middleware for
wireless communications via integrated mailbox as well as Java Integration.
Most Secure Operating System for Smart Phones
There are high security difference between the android operating system and the Apple
iPhone Operating system. The Apple iOS is the most secure operating system because of the
following reasons stated below:
1. Privacy Measures: When privacy is taken in to account, Android OS always is a
second choice compared to iOS. The data or information on the Android OS can be transmitted
to the servers of Google and those data can be used for target advertising (Pieterse, Olivier and
Heerden 2018). Developing a user profile enables the Android OS customizable. But the user
profile makes it less private OS for the mobiles.
2. Security measures: As the OS of Android is an open source, the Play Store of Android
helps the users to get applications more easily and this can result in downloading malicious
application affecting the security of the operating system. In contrast the iOS provides more
restriction providing in-depth security for all the application.
3. Software Updates: The applications of android OS needs frequent update. Frequent
update can lead the device vulnerable to hackers. Google does not have control over the software
updates and the users of Android OS are mercy of the carriers and the phone manufactures when
there is an update or a latest version of operating system (Götz, Stieger and Reips 2017). Apple
iOS is more secure in terms of updating their application as it use its own application and also do
not have frequent update on the operating system.
