INTRODUCTION
Animal rights are known as the legal entitlements which are attributed to non human
animals so that their safety rights can be protected and ensured. As compare to human beings the
cognitive, social and emotional capacity of animals is quite complex which makes their survival
highly complex in the society (Francione and Charlton, 2017). All around the world it is very
common practice to torture or show cruelty towards animals. Thus animal rights are means to
avoid such suffering or cruel behaviour against animals. There is very limited awareness
regarding such animal rights among people and thus essay aims to highlight such issues so that
like human beings animals can also live safely on this planet.
MAIN BODY
According to Rowlands, (2016) in the ancient times it was strongly believed that animals
are meant to support the survival of human beings. Thus they can be used in any way which
comfort the lives of human. As a result of this animals were being treated cruelly for various
purpose such as entertainment, pleasure as well as for their use as food products or other
materialistic things obtained from them. However with time it has been realized that such kind of
inhuman behavior makes the lives of animals extremely painful. The uncontrollable torturer and
hunting activities can even lead to death and making species extinct.
In the same context Scruton, (2018.) stated that in order to retain the ecological balance it
is necessary that animals must be protected from the extinction. However such kind of
knowledge is not known to all communities or societies. As a result of this foundation of animal
rights has become necessary. Contrary to this Garner, (2016) believed that mere foundation and
imposition of such animal rights have not bring much difference. Though activities such as
hunting or use of animals in zoo or hazardous situations have been reduced but still there is much
need of implementing these rights. For example animal products are still in great demand and for
meeting those demands service providers does not hesitate in killing or torturing animals.
Despite having legislation against animals rights there are not much consideration of such rights
taken into account by service providers or the users who consume those products.
As per the view of Freeman, (2016) the activists who support the animal rights used to
raise their voice only for the unethical actions or activities which takes place on roads or small
regions. However no significant actions are taken against the large size organizations who use
animals as means of profit. Another most popular conflict and matter of concerns which needs

involvement of animal right activists is medical and health research. Since in medical research
animals are used to test the new medications there is still ongoing debate that if these silent
creatures must be allowed or not for such life threatening procedure or not. It is regularly
demanded by social and animal right activists that in laboratory these animals have to undergo
into painful procedures.
Thus such kind of testings and use of animals must be immediately taken into account.
However there is a major section of the society who believes that though animals must not be
tortured unnecessarily but animal rights must not be applied to such research. Instead such rights
must be limited and applicable to only domestic or pet animals as they have owners who hold
power to raise voice for their concern. Thus it can be concluded that there is great need to
redefine the scope and implementation of animal rights in the context (Langley, 2016). It will
give and assure the equal treatment and safety for all the animals. Along with this there is also
great need to raise awareness about these rights so that people can use these rights for the welfare
of animals.
CONCLUSION
From the essay it can be concluded that animal safety and rights are essential for ensuring
their easy survival. It is necessary to impose such legislative implications so that unnecessary
suffering of animals can be avoided. Animal safety is not only essential from the perspective of
humanity but also from the environmental and ecological balance. The excessive suffering and
negligence to the safety of animals also lead to even extinction of some species leading to
ecological imbalance. Thus along with the basic safety rights of animals, for ecological balance
as well animal rights must be made more strict.
