2ANIMATION PIPELINE
Introduction
The aim of the report is to describe the animation production workflows and about the
animation pipeline. With the help of animation pipeline it becomes easy to manage the
performance. The seven main processes that are associated with animation production include
kick-off, design, storyboard, animatic, production, feedback and sign off. The last stage is related
to final delivery and render.
Animation production workflows
Animation production workflows are referred to workflow through which a movie is
being produced. The animation pipeline is being divided into three stages irrespective of the
method. This includes the pre production, production and post production. In order to handle the
pre production matters harmony is being designed that focuses on production related objectives.
On the other hand with the help of an external application it becomes easy to manage the post
production process.

Pre production workflow
The pre production workflow is further divided into the different stages that include
scripting at first stage, then comes the process of creating the artists and characters with the use
of storyboard. After this the audio is being recorded based on the designed character. Next stage
is animatic and last stage is the sound breakdown and coloring and styling of background along
with proper prop and characters. Once all the stages are completed successfully the process
moves to production workflow.

Production workflow
The production segment has the potential to vary widely based on the user and the
technique used behind creating the story and characters. The main three techniques that are used
for production workflow includes traditional, paperless and cut-out.

Post production workflow
This the final stage of animation production in which the focus in on creating the video
and audio edition and calibrations are performed. This stage is used for performing the final level
and also includes putting some final effects and coloring in the characters and background.

7ANIMATION PIPELINE
Difference between 2D animation pipeline and 3D animation pipeline
2d animation pipeline
Every animation pipeline includes the same three phases that includes pre production
phase, production phase and post production phase. The major difference that is found between
2D animation pipeline and 3D pipeline is that the sketching is done using pencil in 2d. on the
other hand in 3D the sketching is being animated.
The pre production phase includes storyboard writing, screen play, dialogue recording
and designing the characters. Script writing is considered to be most important stage in film
production as it helps in crafting the story. However the animated film focuses on placing a
visual scripting on action and performance. Apart from this it also becomes essential to color the
background as per the characters with proper layout. In the production phase the key focus is on
animation and preparing the background with proper painting. The designs in 2d animation are
done with pencil tests. As soon as the animatic and all the animation layouts are approved by the
director, the animation can finally commence. The post production phase includes ink and paint,
compositing, rendering, additional sound effect. The final editing and final output export will be
performed after all the process is being executed.

3d animation pipeline
The pre production phase in 3 D animation includes developing the project where the
foundation is developed and redefined. This phase is considered as the critical phase as it allows
the user to modify the elements present within the story effectively. This focuses on creating a
solid foundation for the project before creating the assets. The pre production phase mainly
includes focusing on the concept for a film and developing it into a story. The next phase that is
included in the 3d animation pipeline is pre visualization that focuses on transforming the written
story into a version. After this the focus is on concept designing and character designing. Once
the character concept has been developed, model sheets are created so that it can ensure proper
service towards the blueprints for the 3D modeling process. The Model sheets are developed for
the purpose of showing the character from the front, back, side, and 3/4 view. They ensure that
proper closeups are provided towards the customer that focuses on the face and other features.
This ensures that sufficient details are provided while showing the characters in 3D. The major
difference between the 2D animation and 3D animation pipeline is that the object displayed is in
height and width and on the other hand in 3D animation the objects are displayed in respect to
height width and depth. The basic use of 3D animation is in gaming, movies, medical, aerospace
etceter and the 2D animation are mainly used for cartoon, shows, films, courses and e learning.
The 3D animation pipeline mainly focuses on involving the viewers within the show so that they
can gain real time experience.

Conclusion
Thus from the above report it can be stated that in order to generate any animated story or
a movie it becomes essential to ensure that the story is being developed following the necessary
steps. The report has explained the animation production workflow in detailed so that it becomes
easy to understand the concept. Apart from this the report has also differentiated the two types of
animation pipeline process.
