KOFFI ANNAN’S LEADERSHIP 2
According to Lachica (2011 Kofi Annan was a leader with a vision for Africa and the
entire world. Annan did his best to ensure that African countries are united and peaceful. He
also played a key role as a mediator between two Kenyan presidential aspirants who were the
former president of Kenya Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga back in 2007 which brought peace in
the entire nation that was divided politically. He was very committed in his work which was
very evident during his tenure as the UN secretariat from 1997-2006.
Annan made a lot of contributions to the society in various ways. He inspired the leaders in
the world to agree on his vision for the new millennium during the UN Millennium Summit that
was held on September 2000 which focused on major aspects such as poverty eradication in the
world among others. He played a critical role as a mediator in Kenya in2007 that ended the post-
election violence that existed (Sithole & Asuelime, 2017).
According to Wu & Ma (2017) the present and future leaders can learn much from Annan’s
leadership. Annan portrayed to all that that leadership is about being concerned about your
subjects through various peace treaties he actively involved himself in. Leadership is about being
determined to achieve specific goals. This is because he never gave up until he made things right
such as the mediation role he played for Kenyan leaders in 2007. It was really hectic to unite the
two leaders but he made it.
