Summary of the article
The article elaborates house design that ensures energy saving mechanism around Northern part
of America. However, in the beginning of the article, the author talks about the idea of net zero
performance. There are various article and literatures that the author apply in defining the
concept of net zero performance. After definition, the author outline various house designs in
Northern America and relate the projects with NZEB. The critical review done by the article
proves that there is a need to come up with house designs that minimizes on energy
consumption. The author explains that net zero based designs is the best solution in achieving the
goal. The net zero projects prove to comply with the policy and the technical issues the system
need. The author come to conclude that all new designs should adopt the NZEB ideas as a way
of optimizing the energy sources.
Evaluation
This article provide a clear resolution that guide designers from North America. It tries to explain
the idea of positive energy and net zero energy. The author have define net zero energy from
multiple perspective which makes it easier for one to understand. Besides the definition, the
author have applied various theoretical framing in elaborated how NZEB started and how it helps
in designs. The approach not only provide the reader an opportunity to easily grasp the concepts
but also the designers themselves. The only limitation to this article is that the goals are not
clearly mentioned. Lack of goals made the reader to take a lot of tie in understanding what the
author needs to achieve. In general the article have greatly assisted me in understanding ZEBS
and ho I can apply it in building it building energy saving houses.
