Summary of the Core Reading:
This journal article is intended to develop an awareness of sustainability. For this
purpose, this study has utilises the sustainability triad framework for teaching sustainability.
This study helps in understanding the sustainability concrete. This article demonstrates that
educators have a responsibility in making the student an environmental citizen. This article
provides an overview of the groundwork environmental education in 1970. For maintaining
sustainability shortly, environmentally literate university graduates are highly important.
However, there are very lower numbers of universities that are aware of offering skills
regarding environmental sustainability. This journal article utilises the sustainability triad tool
in assessing the processes of the stakeholders about management strategies. For
understanding the importance of learning environmental sustainability for the student, this
journal article has discussed a real-life case example. In this mini-case example, this article
shows the importance of students in learning environmental issues. This article also sheds
lights on how educators can improve their environmental curriculum. According to the
journal, the term sustainability means capable of being maintained for a long time. There are
mainly three overlapping cycles in the sustainability triad which must be maintained in a
project for reducing any project burden.

From the case study, it has been observed that sustainability issues are rising in
Australia. The case study has described the fact that sustainability has a direct impact on
community health and environmental health. Sustainability issues are creating geopolitical
instability, climate change, demographic change and water scarcity. By linking the
sustainability issues with the journal article it can be said that for reducing the sustainability
issues, offering knowledge to the students about sustainability is highly important. The
students are the future generation of Australia who will hold the entire power of Australia
shortly. Therefore, having an effective level of skills among them about sustainability can

decrease the sustainability issues. Due to the reason, educators must provide better
knowledge about sustainability. The educators must make the student knowledgeable about
sustainability by describing the various mini case and the current environmental issues faced
by Australia so that student can easily understand the necessity of applying sustainability.
The educators must make the student understand the importance of sustainability triad by
including it on the syllabus so that students can implement it in their future workplace or
business in developing sustainability across the world.

Summary of the core reading:
According to the journal article, the three pillars of sustainability framework is the
solution-oriented as well as applied approach for the development of sustainability. The
journal article also supports sustainability projects as well as planning. The article has
described the fact that the key roles of the three pillar frameworks are technology and
innovation, financial incentives as well as laws and governance. According to the article, we
are currently facing the global environmental challenge. Therefore, sustainability solution
needs to be implemented in communities and cities as the rapid response of the global
environmental challenges. For developing the sustainability solution, sustainability triad must
be followed. Different well-known sustainability solution became failed because of the
absence of one pillar. This article demonstrates that the absence of innovation or technology
in the sustainability solution creates a complete failure sustainability solution despite
effective public support or regulatory backing. The pillar of the governance, as well as law,
supports the solution for sustainability at the later and middle stages. If an organization
becomes successful in developing better corporate governance then they can avoid the
mismanagement, improve the accesses of capital and reduce the risks. The journal article has

organisation to quickly act at scale. Therefore, developing a connection between the three

Linking the reading with the scenario:
The case scenario demonstrated the fact that Australia is facing an extreme level of
sustainability issues. Therefore, by linking it with the core reading it can be said that
Australia needs to implement the sustainability solution so that they can reduce the impact on
the ecosystem and lower the number of environmental disasters. According to core reading,
technology or invention is one of the facts that have created the possibility of sustainability-
related issues. For example, the CFC depletes the ozone layer. HCFC should be banned when
it was invented but it was not banned which is creating the present sustainability issues.
Therefore, for developing any sustainability solution, involving technology or innovation is
highly important. Moreover, implementing an effective solution, involving different laws and
governance in a country is important. This is because laws support the solution regarding
sustainability by applying it to different projects. Laws and governance offer several
guidelines to the government and various organisations so that they can control their activity
to reduce their impact on the environment. Involving the financial incentives in the
sustainability solution increases the possibility to quickly apply the solution. Therefore, for
reducing the continuously developing environmental issues in Australia, connection and
relationship among the entire three pillars are necessary.
