Leick, B. (2019). Steering through tough times? Insights into strategic change processes
of small firms in the context of demographic challenges. International Journal of
Globalisation and Small Business, 10(2), 163-186.
This article is effective to understand the impact of the demographic changes in the
context of small sized business. Small sized business industries can include several types of
business ventures, one of these ventures are the small and local grocery stores. Demographic
change issues can have a complex impact on these enterprises.
The first thing that can affect the enterprises are the demographic changes in a place
and workforce. Labour scarcity can be seen in the business if the shift happens from young to
aged labour demographic changes. These problems can influence the work structure of such
grocery stores that are mainly depended on the local working labours. They would have to
change their strategies to survive the demographic changes. Again, changes in demographic
factors can also denote environmental and preference changes in the markets.
The article can prove helpful to give the SMEs about the strategic changes that they
can incorporate in their human resource management and other aspects of the business. He
article covers important aspects like impact of demographic challenges in labour forces,
functions, market environments and suggests adaptive models for the SMEs. Therefore, the
small sized ventures like local grocery stores can take a clue from it and manage the problems
of demographic challenges.
