AI Summary
This report presents a solution for an Archaeology assignment, specifically an annotated bibliography. The assignment requires students to analyze a chosen archaeological artifact, sourced from a museum excursion, and to research and analyze peer-reviewed scientific articles relevant to that artifact. The report details the process of selecting an object, finding and referencing six resources (including three provided and three sourced peer-reviewed articles) using Harvard referencing style. It includes descriptions of each article and a synthesis identifying commonalities, contrasting arguments, and contributions to the understanding of the chosen object. The report emphasizes the analysis of different types of resources and their impact on information gleaned, ultimately contributing to the student's understanding and preparation for group presentations. The assignment is assessed based on explicit criteria, focusing on the ability to analyze, synthesize, and present information effectively.

Details
Assignment 1 is designed to help you understand how to analyse a
chosen archaeological artefact and to source and analyse peer-reviewed
scientific articles relevant to that artefact.
You will be visiting a Museum in Sydney during an excursion in Week 3,
where you will choose one object from a range of available archaeological
objects that you will decide to work on. Each of the available objects is
associated with a different aspect of the past (e.g. hunting and gathering,
agriculture, conflict and war, city life, religious beliefs, etc). You will be
provided 3 appropriate references/resources for your object (e.g. general
readings about the period, about the type of object and the museum
catalogue entry). In addition, you are required to source an additional 3
peer-reviewed articles of relevance to your chosen object. You are
required to reference correctly each of the resources according to the
Harvard referencing style. You are also required to describe the 6 articles,
(150-200 words on each), and then compose a synthesis (800-1000
words) that identifies (a) commonalities and contrasting arguments
between the 6 resources – how do different types of resources change
the information you are gleaning?, and (b) how do the 6 articles contribute
to the understanding of the object that you have chosen. Note that the
reference list is not included in the maximum 2000 word-count.
The gathered information will be used for the group presentations in
Weeks 9 and 10.
