ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY: HIGH LINE BUILDING
Introduction
An enclosed relative construction established on a land. It’s used for wide various activities such
as entertaining, commercial purposes and for living. Manufacturing.
High Line is a building that is situated or located about two kilometers along the linear park of
the greenway across the former New York railroad in Manhattan. The building was constructed
on a disserted overpass section in New York Central Railroad line.
The design of the building was brought about by the cooperation between the following
architects: James Corner Field Operations, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Oudolf. The designers
and the architects of the high line focused their inspirations in the reuse and recycling of
resources by building the high line on a disserted section of land and as well enhancing creation
something a new out of nothing.
The high line building enhances environmental sustainability through the resource efficiency and
reuse throughout the building life cycle from the sitting design to maintenance and operational
affectivity.
High line building ensures cost affectivity while enhancing productivity. This is facilitated by the
reuse of resources from design planning, construction of the building to operational
maintenances.
Achieving smarter, better and cheaper
For a building to be smarter, better and cheaper they should use modern information technology
during their operations to connect different systems, which generally operates independently, the
connection ensures that the systems can share information to optimize the overall building

performance. The High Line Building had the following features to ensure that it was smarter,
cheaper and better;
Robust wireless infrastructure
Assessing smart building device for retrofit
Choosing future-proof device and technology investments
Pre-construction effectiveness
All the initial stages involved in the building project before the real construction works starts are
referred to as pre-construction activities.
During the primary stages of planning on High Line project, the client closely worked with the
design team and the general contractor. Detailed drawings were developed, schedules were
drawn and manpower and budgets projections were carried out before the construction work
began. At these stages, regular communication took place between the main team and other
consultants.
The team outlined the project, formulated budget estimates that met the real budget, classified
possible construction issues and solutions and finally determined the most effective way to use
money and other resources in the project.
All of the above actions and stages describe pre-construction effectiveness in a building project.
On-site construction effectiveness
On-site construction refers to the activities that are supposed to be finalized on the project. They
include maintenances and management of property. Onsite construction process is a chain of

various duties and responsibilities that should be followed with great accuracy so that the project
is carried out in relation to the plan.
For the High Line project to have succeeded there was a heavy-duty association between the
office and the job site.
Why peer benchmarking is critical
Peer benchmarking is the process which allows different organizations/firms to compare
themselves against one another. Peer benchmarking is very critical during the construction of this
project since it allowed different parties of the project team to understand;
i. construction management has evaluation.
ii. How management of project is different from one region to another
iii. The contracting variations within the construction management which can be leveraged
by the project clients.
iv. The current contracting climate
Modern construction contracts
A wide variety of modern techniques of construction methods and products have been created
which have completely changes the behavior of the entire construction industry from what it was
before. During the construction of the High Line building, the modern contracts were found to
retain the key features more conducive to encouraging teeming up of the construction team i.e.
the engineers, tradesmen, architects and different equipment and countless infrastructure features
which allowed successful completion of the project.
