Annotated Bibliography
AI Summary
This annotated bibliography presents an analysis of three research articles focused on contemporary issues in nursing and healthcare. The first article, by Goštautaitė et al. (2018), investigates the migration intentions of healthcare professionals in Lithuania, examining factors influencing their decisions to emigrate and the potential impact on patient-centered care. The second article, by Zhou et al. (2016), explores the reasons behind the emigration of Chinese-educated nurses to Australia, using qualitative methods to understand the influencing factors and motivations. The third article, by Goh and Lopez (2016), examines the acculturation, quality of life, and work environment of international nurses in a multicultural society, assessing the relationship between these factors and the challenges faced by nurses adapting to new cultural contexts. Each annotation includes a summary of the study's focus, findings, and implications for nursing practice, along with a discussion of the limitations and recommendations for future research.

Goštautaitė, B., Bučiūnienė, I., Milašauskienė, Ž., Bareikis, K., Bertašiūtė, E., &
Mikelionienė, G. (2018). Migration intentions of Lithuanian physicians, nurses, residents
and medical students. Health Policy, 122(10), 1126-1131. DOI:
https://doi.org/10.1016/j.healthpol.2018.07.001
The primary aim of this research is to understand the effect of migration intension in the
healthcare physicians nursing professionals, medical students and residential care units on the
patient centered care process. As majority of the healthcare professionals are moving from
developing to developed countries for better career exposure and opportunities, patient centered
care is affected and hence, this aspect has been assessed through this research (World Health
Organization, 2019).
Lithuania has been selected as the source country in this aspect and from this selected
country, 1080 healthcare professionals had been selected within which, 39% are nursing
students, 21% resident nurses, 12% nursing professionals and 6% professional physicians.
Hence, this particular phenomenon leads to migration of healthcare professionals from this
country.
To complete the study cross sectional research has been conducted in which data was
collected from April to September 2017 and in the study one university hospital, one republican
hospital, and one district and regional hospital have been selected. Primary survey has been used
as the intervention in which more than 500 questionnaires were provided and 474 responses were
returned to the researchers.
The measures that have been used for assessment are teamwork climate, social worth,
emigration intention and financial dissatisfaction; hence the limitation of the study is associated
to other factors due to which migration among nursing professionals could be witnessed.
Therefore, the future implication of this study should be associated to development of retention
strategies for the healthcare professionals to include them in the care process.
Zhou, Y., Roscigno, C., & Sun, Q. (2016). Why do China-educated nurses emigrate? A
qualitative exploration. International journal of nursing studies, 53, 163-
172.DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijnurstu.2015.08.008
It has been seen that majority of the nursing professionals of Chinese origin are working
actively in United Kingdom, Australia however, their reason of emigration is less known to the
researchers (World Health Organization, 2019). Therefore, the researchers, with the aim of
understanding the influencing factors that forces the nursing professionals to become an active
part of healthcare process in Australia, conducted this research. In this research secondary
analysis has been used by the researchers to conduct semi-structured interviews and included 28
Chinese nursing professionals working in Australian healthcare facilities.
All the responses provided has been analyzed using the content analysis process in which
majority of the healthcare professional’s textual responses has been included for the analysis.
Further this process also allowed the researchers to understand the participants explanation of the
topic, their ideation, their thought process and in the course, did not affect their individual
responses by imposing personal preconceived notions.

However, the limitation of the study is associated to its questionnaire that provided the
nurses with close ended questions due to which they were unable to share their thoughts upon
any incident. More than 14 nurses responded that china did not provide them with the amount of
exposure Australia gave and hence, they decided to migrate completely to this country.
Therefore, future implication of this study is associated to the application of measures so that
nursing professionals could be provide with all the benefits and the nursing professionals are also
prevented from migrating from the country.
Goh, Y. S., & Lopez, V. (2016). Acculturation, quality of life and work environment of
international nurses in a multi-cultural society: a cross-sectional, correlational
study. Applied Nursing Research, 30, 111-118.DOI:
https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apnr.2015.08.004
Acculturation is the process through which every nursing professional have to go through
so that interactive, developmental and multifactorial processes the nursing professionals become
able to adapt to the new culture and develop a new sense of belongingness and work satisfaction
in other country (World Health Organization, 2019). Besides that they also assessed the
relationship between working environment, acculturation level and quality of life of the
international nursing professionals.
In this research process, the researchers has conducted the cross sectional study using the
correlation design and in the process, 800 nursing professionals has been included. As it was
important for the study to include proper and adequate representation of multiple nationality
groups, the researcher used the stratified random sampling technique (SRST) depending on the
nationality distribution of international nurses professionals registered with the Singapore
Nursing Board. English language was used as the core questionnaire depending upon which the
survey was conducted. After completion of the process it has been found that acculturation level
was different in different nationality nursing professionals and it was seen that Chinese nursing
professionals had lowest level of acculturation and it is also seen that acculturation level has
been associated to the working environment and quality of life that worked as a limitation for
the research process. Therefore, as future implication, the findings of this research could be
used assess the further reason of lower level of acculturation among mainland Chinese
international nursing professionals and hence, shows higher level of reliability.
