Introduction
This essay helps to identify the importance of data information and issues related to its
security as well in today’s world where the cyber security is considered be the biggest risks to
the organisation. This essay includes the effects of data hacking and its impacts to the
companies in context of Australian National University (ANU) as well. In 2018, the website
or portal of the University was hacked and all the personal information of the students and
staff members has been theft from the University website so far. The management issues or
problems which helps to increase the chances of the data theft and cyber hacking will be
explained briefly in this essays. Besides that, this essay also includes some solutions for the
management issues running in the Australian National University (ANU) as well.
Identification of management problem
Lack of privacy and security: The Australian National University has been hit by the data or
hacking breach in 2018. It has been detected that personal data was accessed by third parties.
The professor had informed that hacklers were not able to hack the credit card details,
compensation and travel information (Wax, 2019) .The University took the immediate action
regarding protection, privacy and security on the available data. According to them, they
require digital and informational safety on their system and websites. It wills improvers from
the data and hacking breach. Its security will upgrade the system and protect the Australian
National University from the hacking. It is the most disappointing news which affects the
wall involved and engaged individuals.
Insufficient budgeting & planning would be considered as one of the biggest reason which
was responsible for data & information lost at Australian National University (ANU) as well.
Cybercrime rates has been getting increased by each passing day in today’s competitive
world and it helps to understand that every organisation must need to do sufficient planning
and budgeting so far which will be responsible for not only making the strategies for safety
from unethical hacking or cyber-crime but also sufficient for successful execution of those
strategies in the organisation as well. More often organisation, doesn’t considered as big
problem and usually don’t make effective financial planning for that which will increase
problem in companies.

Effect of irresponsibility’s: From this case, it has been observed that the management and
technical team were irresponsible towards their duties. Irresponsibly causes a major impact
on the hacking and due to this hacker hack, the data and access all the personal information.
By this action and activity, approximate 200,000 people have affected its accessed complete
information like phone number, address, email address, payroll information and the bank
details. It negatively affects privacy and security. After identifying the hacking details the
Australian National University taken sudden changes in the information and secured. It
shows that Australian management was not innovative and doesn’t concern about data
privacy. It will create some major issues which may affect the career and life of individuals
(Salman and abd, 2019).
Solutions
Upload new data in the form encryption: Encrypted data will not access by any other party.
It is the form of digital record which cannot be verified who has not been right for accessing
from any other. It is the part of security on digital media and it authenticates by an individual.
It is only decrypted in the plain by those who have authorized access. It is an encrypted form
of data which will be helpful; to secure the data. Most of the business and universities share
their data in the form of encryption. The Australian National University applied this rule
previously. They will not face any kind of hacking situation on their website and on their data
privacy (Barker, 2019).
Implement new technology software: In this time, the industry is using cloud-based
technology which maximises security and data privacy. It helps the data on cloud storage. It
reduces the chances of hacking. Cloud storage increases data security and maintains the
privacy order. Today’s generation is smarter to develop new things and intelligent towards
hacking and cheating. Due to this new technology and recent trends are the area of
improvement and development. As per the new technology and software updated in the
market. It will be helpful to achieve the expectation and maintain the trust and loyalty
towards sharing the data and files. Every employees and student want effective management
not who concern about their duties. It will be helpful to integrate with the requirement and
effectively accomplishment (Spitzer,2019).
Safe & secure website : The University website was one of the things which would be
considered as the biggest reasons for making it being hacked as well. The University must
need to understand that the website or student portal must be safe and secure enough to not to

get hacked easily as well. It will be one of the most important things for the University, in
order to manage the reputation of the University as well. It will be helpful to increase the trust
among the users including students and teachers and parents so far. It will be helpful to the
company that make effective planning and budgeting for making the website the most secure
and safe as well. It will be one of the require thing for reducing the chances of hacking of
websites and portals of companies so far. ANU must need to make and run a safe, secure
websites for reducing the possibilities of hacking as well.
Conclusion
Australian University has been hacked in 2018 and all the personal information of students,
teachers was theft as well. The report helped to conclude the role and importance of ethical
cyber security and its impact on the organization as well. The report also included those
management issues which were considered to be the responsible reasons for the loss of data
& information through hacking as well. Along with that, the solution for those running
management issues have been explained in this report which would be helpful to increase the
chances of cyber security in today’s competitive world.
