INTRODUCTION
The term counselling is used within the existing society for the purpose of denoting any type
of assistance that is offered to the other people in the process of enabling them in order to
manage their negative circumstances. It is considered as a rationale process that is on the basis of
ethical use of particular professional competencies for assisting human change. This project is
based on an essay in which the topic is associated with the concept of psychology. The chosen
issue in the respective essay is Anxiety and its target group is male. This essay also includes a
detailed description of the issue that is chosen within this project and along with this, it also
covers description at risk group. Moreover, there will be some of the prevention strategies for
those at risk as well as intervention strategies for those directly impacted will also be discussed
within this essay.
MAIN BODY
The counselling theory and practice concentrates on the process of that how the thinking of
human beings can change the behaviours as well as feelings. It is a model of gaining the
understanding and intervention and provides different ways to an individual to view and to alter
the behaviours, thoughts, feelings or interactions of a client. The concept of counselling theory
and practice provide assistance to the counsellors in understanding the changing behaviour of
people and select therapeutic strategies to the particular situations of the clients. The chosen
issue within this essay is Anxiety and the target group is Males.
Description of issue
Anxiety is an emotion that is attributed by the feelings of worried thoughts, tensions and
physical changes such as high blood pressure. People with the issue of anxiety disorders
generally have recurring intrusive concerns or thoughts. In context to Psychology, Anxiety is
defined as a common human reaction to the stressful situations. For people with the anxiety
disorders worries and fears are not temporary. Their anxiety persists as well as can even get bad
over time. Anxiety disorders can harshly harm an ability of a person to perform at a specific
work or in social situations. The appropriate amount of anxiety can facilitate an individual in
performing better and motivate action and creativity but there is also another side to anxiety.
Persistent anxiety causes actual emotional distress as well as can also result in becoming a
person unwell and at worst, evolving anxiety disorders like phobias, panic attacks and

obsessional behaviours and feelings. It is a kind of mental health condition and makes it critical
for getting through individual’s day. Anxiety is considered as s state of psychology which is
featured by somatic, cognitive, emotional and behavioural elements. Such elements get
combined in order to generate the feelings that are typically recognised by a person in the form
of a fear, worry or apprehension. When attention of a person on a specific aspect gets biased then
the anxiety changes what it is conscious of and as a result, it leads to the way an individual
experience the actuality. Anxiety becomes a great issue at the time when it is unexpectedly
severe or lasts longer instead of getting anticipated after a stressful situation got ended and also
causes very marked self-upset or causes someone to be not able to cope with daily challenges. In
context to specific target group of males, the anxiety is caused by many of the reasons and some
of these reasons consist of relationship problems, social isolation, physical health problems, drug
and alcohol use, employment problems, birth of a baby, significant change in living
arrangements such as divorce or separation, etc.

There are some ways to manage anxiety disorders and these ways consist of learning
regarding anxiety, mindfulness, techniques of correct breathing, exercise, developing self-
esteem, techniques of relaxation and structured problem solving. There are also other approaches
to manage anxiety and these approaches include dietary adjustments, learning to be assertive,
cognitive therapy, medication, exposure therapy as well as support groups. Among all these
intervention strategies, cognitive behavioural therapy is considered as the most broadly-used
therapy for the anxiety. In context to specific target group of males, the intervention strategy for
anxiety includes providing encouragement to a person regarding doing exercises on a regular
basis, eating well, identifying the ways for the purpose of minimising the stress, getting enough
sleep, etc.
