elderly people. There is an exclusive centre for the elderly with unique Geriatric Care
initiative that will be a comprehensive centre, for the purpose of understanding of medical
background of elderly as well as to offer customized care to them in accordance with their
requirements. The Elderly Care utilizes a holistic approach employing best ways to improve
physical, mental and cognitive health of the elderly people (Apollo Hospitals, 2017).

The functions of the hospital include providing special environment and attention to the
elderly people in order to improve their functional abilities and physical, mental and
cognitive health. To achieve the purpose, the dedicated Geriatric Care Centre is divided into
four zones, which are Emergency Care, Home Health Care, Out Patient Care, and In Patient

Care. The population over the age of 60 years are usually the target population being
provided with the healthcare facilities by the hospital.

Managers in the elderly healthcare administration involve their legal and moral obligations to
ensure high quality patient care as well as to improve care facilities as per their requirements.
Being in a healthcare profession, I have always been fond of taking care of elderly patients
and in spending time with them. It makes me happy and I feel really satisfied with my work
profile.

My responsibilities as a Healthcare Manager include:
 Working in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to improve the quality
and efficiency of services for elderly patients.
 New laws and regulations for healthcare facilities in adequate compliance with the
regulations.
 Managing finances of healthcare facilities which include managing overhead costs,
patient fees and billing (Healthcare Management Degree Guide, 2019).
 Keeping and organizing the records of facility services which include a number of
inpatient beds and sufficiency of beds for elderly patients.
 Communicating with the medical staff as well as the Head of Department regarding
well-being and requirements of elderly patients.

 Patients - Being the Healthcare Manager in the organization, I need to interact with
the elderly patients many a times in order to know their requirements so that their
demands could be fulfilled. The interaction with patients also provide them the
satisfaction that they are a part of the hospital and their suggestions are taken into
consideration (Truity, 2019)
 Doctors - The interaction with the doctors provide accurate information about the
patients’ conditions and provide an idea about their expectations and requirements
from the hospital.
 Management - The interaction with the management is essential to maintain
transparency in the implementation and execution of any new policies and regulations

In order to be successful as a Healthcare Manager, certain characteristics should specifically
exist such as;
 Helping, persuading and organizing qualities must exist in Healthcare Manager to
deal with all kinds of situations and people.
 Analytical skills must exist for better understanding of laws and regulations
 Effective communication skills to communicate with seniors, juniors and patients.
 Interpersonal skills to motivate and lead staff members (Sechel Ventures, 2019).
 Problem-solving skills to find creative solutions to the administrative issues.

Major legal issues encountered in this position are;
 Patient confidentiality - The information related to the patients need to be kept private
and confidential. The issues related to violation of patient confidentiality are major
concerns for Healthcare Managers. Despite strict laws in this aspect, there are grey
areas wherein, withholding patient related information could be unethical as it could
be harmful for the patient.
 Malpractice and Negligence - There is always a risk for being charged with
malpractice and negligence which affects health of patients. The patients being
harmed due to medical errors can sue for the compensations. Healthcare Managers
need to be highly careful in the course of providing patient care (MBA Healthcare
Management, 2019).
