Description of the Feature, Trade-offs, Benefits and Costs
The latest version of Apple Watch Series is the Apple Watch 5 that incorporates a
compass and a SOS trigger as new upgraded features (Stein, 2020). The new feature that can
be added to the smart-watches is the addition of the camera in the product that will help in
clicking pictures or shoot videos from any angle. The implantation of the camera in the watch
will make it possible for the users to not only shoot stills but also send them to their friends
via Bluetooth or upload in the social media. The trade-off at play is that the sleek and smart
design has to be compromised in order to fit in the camera lens in the model. The benefit of
this feature is that the users can share the proof of their emergency from any place and any
time and seek immediate help. The cost of this feature is the cost of the lens and its embedded
cost with the operating system.
Degree of Comfort and Reason
The trade-off associated with implanting the camera lens is the compromise of the
sleek design of the Apple Watch that might disappoint the users. However, the degree of
comfort with this technology is that the users can use this handy device to send important
information as evidences to significant people with just an Internet connection in no time.
Public Interest of the Technological Feature
The ‘public interest’ is the advantageous factor of the users to record and store
important information in their device in the image format. People always might not get a
chance to use their smart phones if they are secretly shooting evidences of illegal incidents
(McMillan et al., 2017). For instance, if a driver sees that a traffic surgeon is taking bribes to
let go off another driver, he can capture the incident and make it viral on the Internet for
effective steps to be taken by the nation’s government. Moreover, the users can also use this

feature to update their acquaintances about their current position and seek for help if
necessary such as letting them aware about any minor accidents.
Alignment of the Feature with the Principles of the Code of Ethics
The camera feature in the Apple Smart Watch series will be beneficiary for the public
to use it for entertainment as well as emergency purposes. Hence, the principle of ‘public
interest’ is attained through this technological feature ("Code of Ethics | IEEE Computer
Society", 2020). The ‘Client and Employer’ principle is met with this technology because it
will not only satisfy the client with its utility but also the employees will be satisfied by
meeting up with client specifications. The product will be meeting the highest standards and
the modifications associated will also maintain the quality of the product. The software
developers shall maintain integrity in their product by allowing for data access only for the
receiver and the sender. No third party shall get access to the images. The managerial body of
‘Apple’ should maintain the ethical approach by not disclosing the data to the third parties
while upgrading the software. The developers should collaborate with their colleagues to
develop the feature and thus contribute to their self-learning approach.
Conditions to Increase Degree of Comfort
As a developer, I shall create a password system with the feature. The sender and the
receiver shall share the common password in order to get access to the image or video files
while transferring it to other devices (Choi & Kim, 2016). Hence, even if the file is send to
the wrong person, the common password feature will protect from sharing data with the non-
relevant people.
