Conceptual Framework
• In order to present an idea, Conceptual framework is basically used
to outline all the possible courses of action.
• It is developed as per the condition and requirement of the patient.
• The framework encompasses the nursing knowledge and attitude
towards specific problem of patients.
• It improves quality care in the nursing practice (Christmals &
Gross, 2017).

Conceptual Framework
• Specific nursing based conceptual framework can be developed for
pain management.
• This pain management scheme expresses the belief about the
unique and pivotal role of nurses.
• Conceptual framework will consist theories and models to support
the patient in managing pain.
• It emphasizes that the nurses adequately asses the pain and

Sensitization Model
• Patients experiencing pain and loss of mobility are explained using
Sensitization Model of nursing.

Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory
• Kolcaba’s theory of Comfort can be widely used as a conceptual
framework in pain management.
• When patients’ comfort is the main goal, this theory is applied.
• The theory mainly consists of four different types of contexts, in
which the comfort of patients’ can occur.
• They are physical, socio-cultural, psycho spiritual, and
environmental (Lima, Guedes, Silva, Freitas & Fialho, 2016).

Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory
•Comfort theory of nursing was developed in the year 1990, by
Katherine Kolcaba.
•In this theory, the needs of the patients have been clearly
identified.
•It described comfort in three characteristics and they are relief,
ease and transcendence respectively.
•According to the theory, in nursing care, an enhanced comfort is
the basic and desired outcome(Lima et al., 2016).

Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory
•Comfort theory basically involves the process of comforting actions
which is mainly performed by nurses.
•In painful as well as stressful healthcare situations, patients
experience the need of comfort.
•Various literatures indicated pain control as a crucial task for the
nurses.
•In nursing practice, managing post-surgical pain, this theory can be
