IOT IN HEALTH CARE
Introduction
The use of the digital technology is improving the different sectors of the industry. One of
these usage of the emerging technologies is the use of IoT in health care management system. It
has been seen that with the implementation of the IoT in health care system. There are some of
the advantages of using the IoT in the health care system. Apart from that some of the challenges
are also included regarding the use of the IoT (Ramachandran et al.2019). The main objective of
this paper is to understand different perspective of the use of IoT. Apart from that the challenges
regarding this use of IoT along with the mitigation plan is also included in this discussion.
Background
IoT in health care:
The health care sector is a larger sector that covers many things. One of the usage of the
ioT in the health care sector is the use of IoT for examining the patients. In some cases, the
patients are unable to go to the clinics (Alansari et al., 2018). This kind of situation mostly
occurs for the aged people. In this situation, the doctors can examine the patient through the IoT
driven devices. This devices includes the use of the video conferencing and giving instructions to
the patients through the interactive medium.
IoT in operation:
The use of IoT in operation is a common trend in the medical field. Many critical
operations are conducting through the use of the IoT driven system. In some cases, the doctors
use the IoT driven advanced technology operating the proper area.

IOT IN HEALTH CARE
The use of IoT can be implemented for the keeping of the medical record. Medical
records are the important things for both the patients and the health care providing organization.
In this case, it is necessary to keep the data and information safe. In the traditional way for the
restoration of the data , the error may present in the system. However, digitization of the data and
information will help to mitigate these problems (Bhatt, Dey and Ashour2017). Apart from that
the use of the IoT will help to implement the flexibility in maintain the medical records.
Simultaneous records and the monitoring process
Through the use of IoT in the health care sector simultaneous monitoring and the
observation can be done through the use of IoT. In some cases, the constant monitoring of the
patients are needed in crucial time (Pirbhulalet al. 2018). In this situation proper monitoring
process is needed for the patient. The use of IoT can be helpful for the implementation of this
monitoring process. Apart from that the monitoring process will help to inform the hospital
administrative if any abnormality is detected in the condition of the patients.
End to end connectivity and affordability:
The IoT driven automated patient care flow helps to maintain better connectivity. Apart
from that the mobility solutions can be achieved from the use of this technology.IoT in health
care also improves machine to machine communication and rate for the movement of the data.
This helps the delivery of the service effective (Salunke and Nerkar 2017). Apart from that IoT
in healthcare also improves the connectivity through the connectivity protocols like the use of
Wi-Fi ,Zigbee and other modern protocols.
Cost cutting: The can be considered as one of the advantages of the using the IoT in
health care system. Though the use of the IoT in health care the patients do not need to visit the

clinic for the simple problems. Those problems can be solved by the doctors from the distance
places using the IoT driven services (Yeole and Kalbande 2018). Apart from that the utilization
of the better quality of the resources can be done through the use of the IoT devices. All these
things eventually improves resource allocation and planning for a health care sector.
Remote medical assistance:
Through the implementation of the IoT the remote medical assistance can be achieved.
This will eventually improve the medical facility at the remote areas where the medical centers
are not available (Rath and Pattanayak 2019). The remote medical assistance will help the
doctors to examine the condition of the patients through the virtual medium. The medicine on the
primary basis can be prescribed on the basis of the observation.
Challenges
Apart from the application of the IoT in the health care sector and some of its advantages
discussed in the paper, there are some challenges of using the IoT in the health care sector. The
main challenge regarding this is maintain the security of the system. At present it has noticed
that for most of the attacks the intruders are using the IoT devices to get the access of the system
(Tolga 2019).There are several reasons for choosing the IoT device as the target of attack. The
main reason is that the IoT driven services has the interconnected nature (Deshpande, Mathur
and Krishnamurthy 2016). This implies that hacking into the one system will let the intruders to
get access of other systems related to it.
Apart from that, the handling of the overall system needs the experts. In this case, the
hospitals and the health care providing organizations has to recruit more technical experts for
supporting and handling the functions of the IoT driven system. Moreover, the organizations has

to train the employees so that they can understand the functionalities and functions of the system
in a proper way.
Aim and significance
The relevance the discussion regarding IoT is needed to be evaluated so that the
significance of the IoT can be understood. The main objective of the research is to evaluate the
significance of IoT in the health care system (Anand andRoutray2017). The information
discussed in various literature reviews and the articles points out that with the implementation of
the IoT driven system, the improvisation of the helath care system can be achieved. Apart from
that, further innovations can be done using the use of the IoT in the health care system.
The motivation of the use of the IoT in the health care system is the advanced solutions to
the health care problems. Apart from that, both the doctors and the patients can utilize the system
in effective way (Khan, Jan and Alam 2019). The medical devices can be driven by the
advantages of IoT. Apart from that the overhead cost of maintain the health care service for the
organization and the medical cost for the patients can be mitigated through the use of the IoT
driven system. All these factors will help the organization to adopt the IoT driven solutions.
However, use the extensive use of IoT there is a problem regarding its usage. There are
certain challenges those can be faced by the users while using the IoT in health care sector. The
main issue regarding this is the security issue. It has been seen that most of the IoT driven
services are using by the intruders for getting access to the devices (Farahaniet al. 2018). Most of
the devices in the helath care system holds the confidential and private data regarding patients.
Getting the access to those data and information by the unauthorized entity will become a threat
for both the patients and the health care service providing organizations.

Another problem identified from the discussion is the for maintaining the IoT driven
devices, there is a need for the technical experts so that the handling of the system can be done in
a proper way. Apart from that the employees in the organization needed to be trained by the
organization so that they can manage the newly implemented IoT driven system. All these
activities will cost the health care service providers a higher rate of capital investments.
Regarding this discussion certain questions can be formed in this context. These are-
ï‚· What are the measures of the performance of the system based on the IoT?
ï‚· What are the indicators that the use of IoT is needed to be done in the
organization apart from using other technologies?
ï‚· Is there any way to ensure full security for the IoT system?
ï‚· Is recruitment of the technical experts is enough for the proper implementation of
IoT in organization?

From the discussion, there are certain questions those are relevant in the context or the
research. In this context, there can be a question regarding the way of using the IoT that will
prevent the external threats for the system. Apart from that there can be a question regarding the
use of IoT in solving the social issues. The improvement of the health care system will serve the
society so it can be considered that use of IoT will serve the benefits for the society. Another
question raised in this context is the ways for the mitigation of the identified challenges for the
IoT in health care. Apart from that the health care organizations should think about the further
innovations using the IoT driven services for the overall improvement of the health care sector.
