Coursework 2 will exercise your short report writing to help you communicate your findings
effectively in a clear, concise, and scientific style. This active learning approach to learning
should help you to experience the challenges faced by consultant psychologists in a range of
applied areas of psychology. Overall, skills are advanced in literature searching and
reviewing, objective and subjective evaluation of theory and research, intervention
development, harmonious group work, the honing of oral and written communication skills as
well as a host of other competencies (i.e. organisational skills, timekeeping, critical thinking,
problem solving, creativity, reliability, independence etc.).
Written Report Requirements CW2
The written report (1,500 word guide; 50% of final module mark) includes a written
summary of any 1 out of the 4 final solutions. The aim is to draw from the collective
research of the group to outline and evaluate a solution to the development of the
identified areas of applied psychology based on relevant theory, research, and other
literary evidence. However, if you wish to deviate from your group’s solution and
base your solution on your own research or ideas from other group slides this is also
acceptable.
You should structure your solution to the problem appropriately using introductory,
main body (i.e., start with theory, then research, evaluation, and intervention ideas)
and concluding sections. The marking criteria, including all the information that is
required in the solution, is included below and at the end of this guide.
Your solution should include:
1. A title that appropriately reflects the subsequent solution summary. Keep the title
concise and precise and include your word count on your title sheet.
2. Clear background information on the area of interest including detail on the key
underlying theory(ies), definitions of concepts, and both contextual and wider
implications of your chosen area of interest and solution.
3. An Identified theory, area of research or intervention (i.e. consultancy) that could
be furthered in an identified applied area of psychology. You can also base ideas
on evidence from other areas of applied psychology.
4. Inclusion of empirical theory and research support that supports your solution
ideas.
5. Appropriate evaluation of the strengths and limitations of the respective theory,
research, or applied intervention techniques.
6. Presentation of a valid and appropriate solution to the area for development
which is clearly linked to the theory, research, and its evaluation.
7. Evaluation of the strengths and potential limitations of the applied solution.
8. A concluding section that adequately reflects the preceding content of the
solution.
9. References to theory, research, and interventions should be cited throughout. In
addition, you need to provide a full reference section either at the end of each
summary or as a final section to the overall report. All references should be
formatted according to CU Harvard style.

10. Writing should be scientific in style; use correct terminology, be clear, concise
and precise, use diagrams and figures where appropriate. The report needs to
be well organised and presentable (double spaced, size 12 font - any legible
font such as Times New Roman or Arial). Credit will be awarded for correct
grammar, spelling, and structure, including appropriate use of sub-headings.
Check your work thoroughly once you have finished, paying particular attention
to comprehension (is your writing clear and understandable?), structure
(sentences, paragraphs, sub sections and their overall composition), your critical
analyses, and your links throughout (link sections on theory, research, &
solution).
11. Although the style of presentation should be scientific in nature it should be clear
and concise enough to be understandable to a lay person or end user in the
applied area of psychology selected in each problem.
