Personal statement
I left my country seven years ago with the main aim of learning English. I have a great interest in
learning and have taught myself various programming languages such as python, SQL, and R.
The self-taught courses have been of great importance in my life as they helped to develop a
predictive algorithm in the Mexican market from my previous job at Expedia, Inc. I discovered
the Mexican population mostly use their mobile devices versus desktop and mainly book 3-star
hotels within a 10-mile radius from the beach. The team and I developed a robust predictive
algorithm in Python which was being tested against ongoing hypotheses.
On top of the self-taught courses, I have graduated with a Masters in Strategic marketing which
was taken online and a Bachelor’s degree in International Business which I took in France. From
my qualifications, I earned myself a job as a marketing manager for a sustainable start-up where
I worked for a year and also served the position of the senior key account manager for a
renowned digital marketing company. I always feel good when offering my skills to different
businesses, non-profit firms and other organizations and I always strive to offer my best to the
firms I’m working for.
Despite having taken business and marketing courses, I have a great interest in statistics and fell
in love with statistics many years ago when I was still young. It could have been my great
pleasure to take a statistics related course, but being born in a middle-class family could not
allow me to take the expensive statistics courses and so I ended up taking a Bachelors in
International Business which was free in France. For the last three years, I have been working as
a senior analyst and works closely with data scientists.

I develop statistical models every day to predict the metrics for my current work. My current
work and workmates escalated my great interests in statistics which made me pursue a course in
applied statistics. I have chosen to take applied statistics to boost my statistical knowledge and
aims to be like my workmate who has a Ph.D. in statistics. She has a great statistical knowledge
and skills and always assists me in various ways when working together. She has helped to
improve my knowledge and skills in computational statistics, made me fluent in handling large-
scale data sets, and taught me many other statistical aspects.
I believe taking a course in applied statistics will help to enhance my statistical knowledge and
skills in a great way and this will help to improve my performance at work. I spend most of my
time taking free online MOOC classes especially those of statistics and data analysis using R
programming. I love learning different skills and truly believe if you work hard you can learn
and achieve anything you set your mind to. The statistical knowledge and skills I have gained so
far have been of great help in my life and aims to learn even more to gain more knowledge and
skills which will be of great benefits to my work and my life in general.
