INTRODUCTION
Robert Blake and Jane Mouton developed a managerial grid which is also called as
leadership grid where the different styles of the leadership can be identified based on the concern
of the manager to the people and production. These concerns are towards satisfying the personal
needs and quality and creativeness of the output.
MAIN BODY
Blake and Mouton's managerial grid is used to depict the different leadership styles and
concerns for people on the vertical axis while concerns for production on the horizontal axis. the
different types of leadership styles include impoverished management where the managers will
put in less efforts to get the work done and will have low concerns for employee satisfaction and
working deadlines. The task management style is more dictatorial where leaders will think more
about the production and less for the people (Cai, Fink and Walker, 2019). Middle of the road is
a compromising style where the leaders are supposed to maintain the balance between the goals
of organisation and the needs of people. In the country club there is less focus on task and more
on people. And last is the team management where the leader is focused to create a work space
which will produce high employee satisfaction and more production. Some advantages of this
leadership grid is that it helps me in understanding my natural style of leadership from where I
can create a personal development plan which helped me reach the team management style.
However this model is very simplistic which does not involve many other facts which are
related to the management and leadership. This model does not put focus on the development
level of the team and the culture followed within the organisation.
I work as a HR professional in a technical company. There were problems faced during
the sudden outbreak of the virus and has lead to creating many disturbances. It was a very crucial
stage and thinking critical was required. Managing the people in the best way can only help the
company survive in the market during these times. The situations for working were changed to to
be safe secure from the virus (Zbihlejová, Frankovský and Birknerová, 2018). It was mandatory
to make the staff work remotely. Managing the changes within the organisation while managing
the people was very challenging. Any lack in the productivity can lead to losing the client as the
market became very competitive in order to survive. During this case the leadership style
followed by me was the team management style which is a very effective leadership style and
reflects on my passion about work and best things to be done for the people. It made me stay

committed to the goals of the organisation while keeping the staff motivated and working their
best to attain the desired results. Team manager leadership style made me earn the respect and
feel empowered while committing to achieve my personal as well as professional goals. It helped
me prioritise organisation's need for production aligning with the needs of people. I made sure
that the team members and the other employees have a proper understanding about the main
purpose of the organisation and show their complete involvement in determining the production
needs.
It was important to understand the situation of the employees in this difficult time and
help them manage to adapt with the changes. It is important to be supportive and help the
employees related to their needs and problems facing while not working within the
organisational boundaries. This leadership helped me in motivating the employees to perform
their best and give out the best results. This resulted in the efficient rate of production which is
leading to the organisational success. It is important to change the style of leadership according
to the current situation as the use of country club management would have just lead to focus on
people more than on the results (Garg, Mishra and Wadhawan, 2018). Producing greater results
was the only demand in the market and the otherwise situation might have landed the company
in a very difficult situation. This will only satisfy the half part of keeping the employees and their
priorities at a high place. On the other hand, team management leadership in this grid makes the
people stay committed to the production and creates a work space which is developed on the
foundation of trust and respect. It lead to producing high satisfactory results, motivating and
excellence in what is desired.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that the Blake and Mouton grid helps in providing a simple way to
understand the style of leadership. Having this understanding helps in determining the leadership
style during the current time and planning accordingly to address the strengths and weaknesses
which will help in becoming a better leader.
