This assignment presents a critical appraisal of a qualitative study titled "Promotion of exclusive breastfeeding among HIV-positive mothers: an exploratory qualitative study" by Hazemba, Ncama, & Sithole (2016). The study, which employed a qualitative approach, investigated the factors influencing HIV-positive mothers' decisions to exclusively breastfeed. The assignment begins with confirming the study's empirical and qualitative nature, identifying the research question, and outlining the PCC framework (Population, Concept, Context). The core of the assignment involves a detailed evaluation of the study based on an appraisal guide, addressing ontological, epistemological, methodological, and ethical considerations; rigor and trustworthiness; and reporting of results/findings, including limitations. The analysis assesses the appropriateness of the qualitative approach, congruity between philosophical perspectives and methods, researcher's position, ethical considerations, clarity of research questions, sampling methods, data collection and analysis techniques, and the presentation and interpretation of findings. The assignment also examines the relevance of the findings to public health practice and their potential application. The limitations of the study are also considered. The appraisal concludes by discussing the conclusions drawn and their justification based on the results.
