Title: “To determine the impact of Joint venture on Argos when entering in to Afghanistan”.
A case study on Argos
EXPLANATION OF TOPIC
Globalisation is a process of operating new or existing business in to new market with an
aim to increase customer and market share which leads business expansion (Piaskowska,
Nadolska and Barkema, 2017). One of the way of entering into foreign market is joint venture
business. It refers to a strategy in which more than one company share their pool of resources to
achieve a common purpose or goals. For this research, Argos is taking for discussion which is a
retail chain and deals in clothing, foods and other accessories which is necessary for comfortable
life. Impact of globalisation on company is solely depends on how they have opted different
types of strategies and techniques used by them to enter in to a new market. It is essential for
them to identify few questions before planning for globalisation i.e., which country is suitable for
the products offering, how to sell them, which market segments to target. The answers of these
questions are complex in nature and due to this, globalisation becomes risky in nature. To reduce
this, company can opt for Joint venture as it would divide the risk among companies and pooling
of resources makes the company stronger that's why Argos is planning to launch their business in
the Asian market, specifically in Afghanistan with the company named Finest Superstore which
is a retail division of SMN Investment Group and first retail chain of country (Connelly and et.
al., 2018). The reason behind selecting this topic is that it would enhance the knowledge of
reader and learner about how company can launch a business with the help of joint venture and
what are the risks they are going to face in the future and how they could tackle it to maintain
their profitability. In addition to this it also cover the information regarding, cost which would be
split between companies, how profits is allocated between them, how operations is managed
between companies would be find out due to which researcher have chosen this topic. .

performance and profitability. Reader or learner knowledge would be enhanced related to joint
venture as all the information which would be mentioned in the paper is authenticate and
credible in nature. Paper will provide the accurate meaning of joint venture and could motivate
the learner to evaluate the topic more deeply as it is not possible for single researcher to cover
every aspect of it. There are various possible limitations which would be faced by researcher like
lack of funds. Primary research attracts lots of spending as research have to conduct everything
specially so to make it more credible and authentic in nature. Moreover, it is very hard to cover
every aspect of it as impact and problems of joint venture changes according to the industry,
time, country, company's strategies etc.
RESOURCES AND COST CONSIDERATIONS
It is important for every company to analyse and collect all the resources which they are
required to accomplish the globalisation by joint venture approach. For instance, Argos should
identify the suitable workforce which could help them to perform with their highest potential.
Proper analysis of skills and capabilities is essential to evaluate. Besides this, technological and
land or building is also necessary for Argos to conduct their business with Finest superstore.
Apart from this, researcher also requires fund so that they can conduct their primary research
with the help of questionnaire which also takes high time. Even it is hard for researcher to
identify the authenticity of respondents as there are sometimes a case when they just fill the
questionnaire to save their time. Minimum cost which would be incurred by Argos is 20 million
Euros as they have to invest in marketing activities and machinery to run their business
smoothly. Research would require 300 euros to conduct their research as print out of
questionnaire, using of secondary resources, miscellaneous activities etc. requires money.

There are many risk which would be faced by researcher while conducting the research is
given below,
Basis Risk
Lack of funding Allotted fund to conduct the research is low as
it takes high amount of funds to conduct

secondary research cost etc. Besides this,
review of literature was affected due to this
risk which research faced.
Technology It was hard for research to cope up with the
technology as it requires pre knowledge of the

breakdown, research time has increased which
makes it less credible.
Time Time allotted for me to conduct this research is
less as it is hard for researcher to take the
