1THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Introduction
In contemporary world, lots of people are making use of social medias like Facebook,
Tumbler and Twitters etc. As technology has completely revolutionised the communicationw
world, the trend of face-to-face communication has also taken over by the communication
technology like these social networking sites all around the world (Chawinga, 2017). The
generalisation of internet has enabled human beings to live conveniently, being in touch with
their family and friends, no matter where they live. But, is it a boon or a curse? This paper
shall elaborate on presenting an argumentative essay in support of the social media usage for
wildly advocating social networking.
Discussion
Supporting evidence 1: A recent study confirms that social media platforms like facebook
and twitters are connecting businesses worldwide.
It has been found that 54% of the companies worldwide are blocking the use of social
media at workplace. Many employers think that the time that employees spend using
Facebook and Twitter hampers the firm productivity. However, it is to mention that facebook
and twitters are connecting people all over the world for developing a social, commercial as
well as personal relationship. According to the recent survey, about 52 percent of small
businesses today are posting on social media everyday (Ioanas & Stoica, 2014). Also, the
paid social media advertising has today become a necessity for several brands, which seek for
results and visibility. Facebooks are Twitters are been used by the companies for ensuring
better customer service. As per the study by Bastos (2015), 64% of customers use of
Facebook for finding about the organisations and 69% of them use it to present their queries.
Supporting evidence 2: Facebook is a boon for people living far away from their families for
their business, jobs or education

2THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA
It has been claimed by the opponents of Facebook and Twitter that using social media
are disturbing people in making deep relationships with others. Emphasizing on my view
point, in against of this claim, it is to mention that it is all because of these social media sites
that people living far away are able to remain in touch with their families and friends. They
can easily make video and audio calls, that too free of cost, to stay connected (Pittman &
Reich, 2015). These sites have also allowed people to chat and send messages in order to
remain updated with their kith and kins.
Supporting evidence 3- Social media has provided several benefits for the teachers and
students.
It is often argued that social media is distracting the students from their students.
However, there are certain advantages too that should not be ignored. It has become very
easy for the students to get education and guidance from other experts and professionals
today with the use of social media platforms. There are certain pages and groups that students
can follow on social media in order to remain updated as well as get tips on their learning
(Garimella et al., 2017). These platforms are helping the students in learning and enhancing
their knowledge regarding each and every fields sitting right at their home and not wasting
the time of travelling to tuitions for different subjects. Regardless of their education
background and location, students today can educate themselves without even paying
immense money for the same.
Supporting evidence 4- According to the recent survey, social media is helping in noble
causes.
It is to mention that it is the social media platform that are promoting the social
welfare activities, NGOs, donations for the needy people. Without their help it would have
been impossible for the people to even know about the incidents and help them (Banks,

Hulme & Edwards, 2015). People today are making use of these sites to donate for the needy
and it is also helping them in being aware of the society in which they are living. It is also
because of social media that people today are able to discover the innovative and new stuffs
and improve their personal lives. None can deny the awareness factor of Facebook and
Twitter. It is also helping the government and the different agencies to fight crime while
helping them spying and catching the criminals.
Conclusion
From above analysis, it is to conclude that social media do have few disadvantages
but the immense positives of the web communication indeed outweigh the darker side of it.
Hence, it is a boon for people.
