1-Compare and contrast Monet’s Gare Saint-Lazare and Cezanne’s Mont Sainte-Victoire.
Explain why both of these artists fit into the Impressionist period. Explain what each artist was
trying to accomplish with his piece. Is there a similarity to discuss when analyzing the subject for
these works? (Think about how the Salon would look at both of these subjects).
The artists mentioned above fit into the impressionist description through their peace of work
since they both had their painting depicting specific atmospheric conditions. Their techniques
captured well visible colours. Both artists were interested in sunlight and its effects on the artistic
work. In the Gare Saint-Lazare, Monet showed a great interest in colour and light. From this
work, it is evident that the steam, locomotives and the land beyond are the subjects of his paint.
In this wonderful piece of work, Monet is drawing the attention of the viewers to the reality of
modernity that is integral to the industrialisation. Cezanne did his job for years, yet critics
regarded it as unfinished. Mountain and the world beyond is the subject of his work. From this
piece of art, it is possible to say that he was trying to find unachievable truth within the corrupt
face of a world where truth is long dead and buried. Both artists had the almost same idea in their
piece of works which is the modernity and the society.
2-Discuss Industrial architecture using the Eiffel Tower and Berg’s Centenary hall as your
examples. Be sure to include their functions and building materials to explain their particular
significance.
The Eiffel Tower is located in Paris; it was built mainly for the Exhibition in 1889. The tower
marked a significant step in the architectural industry that for a very long time used bricks in
constructions. In the tourism industry, the tower is considered one of the best tourists
destinations. Unlike the ancient buildings, the tower took considerable shorter time with lesser

labour force to complete in relation to its size. The tower is constructed through the use of
advanced technology of metal arch together with metal truss. It was the father of the revolution
in architectural industry and designing.
On the other hand, the construction of the Berg’s Centenary hall took place between 1911 and
1913. It is considered as one of the most massive concrete structure. The room was built using
the steel, glass and the reinforced concrete. Through this building, there was a new idea that
shaped the engineering and architectural industry. The main reason for this building was to bring
people together through conferees, concerts, trade shows, spiritual as well as political meetings.

Cubist work can be traced back in 1908 with Picasso’s Seated Nude and Carra’s Funeral of the
Anarchist Galli taking the leading role. Cubism strives so hard to do away with the three-
dimensional planetary and in so doing it portrayed the theme in the picture more vividly to the
viewers. The Futurists came as a rebel to the cubists works in 1910; in so doing they drew the
observers in the graphic vortex. These two movements had some difference in relation to their
work. Cubists in their line of work paid less attention to the machines as opposed to the Futurists
who adored the engines. Cubist painters encourage their observers to pay much attention to the
daily subject matter. Cubists avoided direct contact with the public and did most of their work in
laboratories while futurists were engaging the people directly in the market places and another
public gathering.

4- Compare Dali’s Giraffe in Flames to Hamilton&r******** $********th artists depict

Giraffe in the flame is a piece of work done by Dali to portray the nature of man and his selfish
centred interest in the world and the picture mainly written in 1937. This is vivid in the image
when a giraffe is burning and behind it is a woman seemingly enjoying the life. He was creating
awareness on the effects of war on the life of humanity and its destruction to the beautiful
environment. The paint was done at a time when war seemed to take center stage in man’s life.
The Hamilton art had a different message about the society and the environment in 1950s. He
was doing the paint in relation to the modernity and the beauty that accompanies it. With a
woman as the bodyguard in Bernie Price, he sends a different signal from the traditional mindset
about the role and the nature of a woman. Both artists did much work in relation to the modern
society and using individual images except for Dali who included the animal in his art.
