Abstract
The future is here, and man is facing a new fight, and the fight is for jobs. How can artificial
machines work with humans and not be considered a threat to human survival when they could
possibly replace human jobs that feeds their families. How can the world adjust to having a
machine that can think and OD the same work better and cheaper? The movies have warned us
that one day this time will come, and I believe that the time is here. AI machines are being used
in the military, business, and medical fields. Man will soon start facing its biggest threat, which
is survival of the fittest. The paper offers an overview of Autonomous machines in the
community, the purpose, the risk and benefits and how humans comate with AI.

Introduction
Autonomous means to be independent and free of any external control. The intelligence
practitioners carry out their tasks or functions with zero to negligible involvement from outside
or others. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems demonstrate certain behaviors that are common
with human intelligence such as problem-solving, learning, reasoning, planning and
manipulation. AI has been created for the betterment of mankind and performs multiple tasks
like humans. However, every step forward in artificial intelligence gives rise to assumptions and
apprehensions about what machines can do or the risks they could bring along.
From its earliest days
When programming began six decades ago, the intelligence of the computer was limited
to just making numerical calculations. However, the level of artificial intelligence has grown
multifold ever since, and today, the computers carry the power to compete with the best of
human minds. It is this incredible capacity of computing systems which is known as “artificial
intelligence” or AI (Parnas, 2017).
The purpose of AI machines
The purpose of AI machines to work and think like a human brain and carry out the tasks
expected of them. AI research focuses on programs that understand human thinking and can
imitate human behavior. The focus is on research that plays games and uses the methods of
humans (Parnas, 2017).
Why we need them
There is a growing affinity for human-robot collaborative ecosystems in various sectors
like logistics, manufacturing, and healthcare where the use of robots as precision operators can
lift heavy workloads. While the humans can focus on monitoring, guiding, maintaining and
coordinating, the AI machines can take care of the physical work (PWC, 2018). Businesses are

using AI in customer engagement as virtual private assistants and chatbots across multiple
channels and thus help drive up sales.
How the world sees AI
The world looks at AI as smart technology and artificial creation that can perform human
tasks without emotions and without getting tired. Automation has transformed the way
corporations, and businesses run and have changed the society.
Are they for good or bad?
As the smart technologies and AI continue to evolve, they are expected to conquer much
more complex tasks that ate beyond human limits. Whether autonomous machines are good or
bad for the society relies on how humans and artificial intelligence can work together in the
future. The risk arises when because one gets dependent on them and any failure by the AI
machine can go unnoticed as stated by Parnas (2017).
Businesses using AI
AI is employed in a variety of sectors such as national security, healthcare, finance,
transportation, criminal justice, and smart cities. AI is already, making an impact in different
bossiness and aiding human capabilities (West & Allen, 2018). There are incredible
opportunities for economic development because of AI. Narrow AI combined with human-AI
collaborations is reshaping businesses and markets (PWC, 2018).
Jobs for humans
Advancing technology versus employment for humans is not a new conflict. However,
with the fast pace of AI technologies, the threats to human jobs seem more real than before a
stated by Singh (2018). However, AI does not just take away jobs but also helps to create new

ones. There would be jobs for humans in the future which needs to keep pace with technology.
Ignoring AI would not be a good proposition for any business.
Jobs for machines
AI machines are getting increasingly employed at corporate workplaces, banks, wealth
management firms, companies, and retail firms. These machines can make intelligent
conversations, sell products and improve functioning by taking care of more customers (Singh,
2018). However, there are certain limitations to AI machines as they are not human but a very
clever software. They need to be a lot better to replicate the complexity of human interactions
and emotions.
Finding a balance between AI machines and humans is essential. Businesses cannot rely
on AI entirely for their operations. AI should be used to boost the competences of humanity, and
there should be a collaborative environment where there is space for both. For example, in a
warehouse, robots can take on the physical tasks, while the workers can monitor and assist the
robots (PWC, 2018).
Importance of AI in our lives
AI is here to stay and would thrive in the coming years. Automation has transformed the
society and workplaces radically, and the artificial intelligence is being used in different
applications. The incredible speed, capacity, and memory of AI today make them capable of
remarkable analysis and decision-making. As the autonomous devices enter into many aspects of
life, it is only apparent that they are here to stay and would thrive in the coming years as they
improve efficiency and response times.
How AI can fail
Document Page
EDUCATION 6
There are potential dangers of artificial intelligence, and the commercial and scientific
have expressed concerns on how AI can fail or be risky. As AI becomes more powerful, there
can be a grave risk if it falls into the wrong hands like authoritarian regimes or untrustworthy and
dangerous devices and systems (Parnas, 2017). Under those scenarios, AI can be a risk and can
fail.
Risks AI impose to the economy
Microsoft has said that Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solutions do offer many
advantages because of data conversion into AI drives which gives a competitive advantage.
However, the resulting populism and economic nationalism can be a risk to its businesses (The
economic times. 2018)
Taking jobs away from humans
While AI machines will take away a sector of jobs from humans, they cannot replace
them completely. They still lack the human values and human behavior. However, as their
thinking and analyzing capabilities advice in the future, humans might have to compete with
machines that think. So far the intelligent machines work based on algorithms and desired
objectives expected from them. The risk will arrive when those AI machines get misaligned with
their true objectives and might think more intelligently than the humans do (World Economic
Forum, 2018).
Having AI machines costs money and it elves one wondering if they are worth the
money. Both large and small corporations are getting increasingly dependent on machine-based
intelligence. While the AI offers specific advantages by improving speed and efficiency, the
corporations and businesses need to ensure that they need to keep pace with the ever-changing
algorithms.

AI is likely to take over every household product and integrate into the major components
of an individual’s life. AI machines would practically run a house and make it a smart home. AI
applications within the home include cleaning, entertainment and security, and surveillance.
Conclusion
Autonomous machines are here to stay, and Artificial intelligence systems dominate
almost every sphere of our life. Although AI has been created for the betterment of mankind,
certain risks can be foreseen. There have been tremendous advancements in the field of artificial
intelligence, and one finds an increasing use of AI in different sectors. Automation has
transformed the businesses and the society. Whether AI would be good or bad for the society
relies on how humans and artificial intelligence work together in a collaborative ecosystem.
While it may seem that AI may take away jobs from humans, the true is that it helps create more
jobs and specific tasks still cannot be performed only by humans. There is no denying that AI is
essential in our lives as it helps to improve efficiency and response times and take care of
repetitive tasks.
