1ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HEALTHCARE
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the significant contemporary issues in the field of
healthcare and is likely to decline the current health care system by 2020 (Maddox, Rumsfeld
& Payne, 2019). This paper shall elaborate on discussing about how AI is helping in the
development and advancement of the health care industry.
For improving the healthcare industry, artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of health
care is indeed a good idea as it can improve the communication of patients with the
healthcare professionals. Employees can function their best when they are capable of
practicing at peak performance. It is highly efficient of enhancing the capacity of processing
and storing huge amounts of data in intelligent way and translating information into the
functional tools (Wong & Bressler, 2016). It creates some intelligent computer systems,
which perform the tasks without receiving any instructions from the human beings. However,
sometimes, during the implementation of any technology or software, because of shortage of
knowledge, human beings do wrong and this adversely impact the equipment or the system.
In the same way, implementation of AI also highly enhance the care delivery but sometime,
can also be significant disruptive to the healthcare teams or providers (Vogenberg & Santilli,
2018).
In the healthcare industry, artificial intelligence is benefitting in many ways. The ever
increased availability and accessibility of the data along with the recent developments in AI
have presented some unprecedented chances and opportunities in the healthcare industry and
with the same, some major challenges for the regulators, patients, providers and developers.
According to Jiang et al. (2017) the main aim of AI is mimicking the human cognitive
functions. It is also claimed to be improving the human diagnosis system as the AI equipped
product has the potential of sifting through the disease data, medical records, clinical studies
as well as the health records of the patients too (Hamet & Tremblay, 2017).

2ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HEALTHCARE
There are some diseases that need immediate action or else, they become much more
serious. In case of AI, the neural network of the brain is look alike and at the same time, also
have the potential of learning from the earlier cases. There are different researchers who have
claimed that it is proven that all these networks could diagnose accurately and fast to the
diseases like malignant melanoma, eye problems etc. With the same, it is also to note that AI
also helps in reducing human errors (Hashimoto et al., 2018). It is known that the profession
of a doctor is highly sensitive as doctors need to take care of minute details of each and each
patients. In a single day, they could see huge number of patients and this could be very
exhausting as it calls for knowledge and attention of the patient. Also, many of the times,
because of shortage of activeness, human error could threaten the safety of the patient. For
overcoming such instances, Artificial Intelligence can play the role of a super human spell
checker who assist the doctors in eliminating the human error and relieving them from the
time-consuming and monotonous tasks. It is highly efficient of enhancing the capacity of
processing and storing huge amounts of data in intelligent way and translating information
into the functional tools.
Furthermore, it is also to mention that Artificial Intelligence also helps in cost
reduction (Russel et al., 2015). With the emergence of new technologies like artificial
intelligence, patients could get an access of doctor assistance without even visiting the clinics
or hospitals and this results in cost cutting. It is also to note that AI assistants also provide
some online care and at the same time, assists the patients in adding their data more
frequently through the online medical records (Dilsizian & Siegel, 2014). Moreover,
technology of virtual presence, which is also known as telemedicine, enables the specialists
in helping their patients to live at remote locations. Making use of remote presence robot, the
doctors could engage more effectively with their patients and staffs in the clinics and
hospitals and at the same time, assist and clear their queries more quickly and effectively.

Hence, from the above analysis it is clear that the emergence of AI in the
contemporary medical world is of a great help for both the doctors as well as the patients. It
has some great application in the field of therapy planning, diagnostic assistance, generating
alerts and reminders, image recognition and interpretations and all these are helping in
ensuring effective risk assessment.
