Artificial Intelligence (AI): What is the problem for which this technology is the solution?
Recently, there have been great concerns about what AI means for us; the risk of mass
job loss or even robots replacing us at the workplace. However, current studies show that AI can
be utilized to our advantage. Below are some of the areas that AI can help us solve problems in:
Healthcare sector
AI has been used in the health sector in various ways contributing immensely to the
growth of the field. For instance, AI and machine learning algorithms have been used to
diagnose cancer patients, prescribe the best treatments, and help improve the selected treatment
schemes for patients (Gray 8).
Education
Humans learn at a different pace and different levels of understanding. AI could be used
to offer customized learning to students since no learning system in the world could offer a
teacher for each student. For instance, Georgia Tech University has already used a robot that has
a 97 percent accuracy rate as a teaching assistant to its students.
Transport
Self-driving cars have the potential to reduce injuries and deaths that happen on our
roads. Through a study report conducted by Stanford University, autonomous cars will have the

ability to reduce injuries, reduce traffic-related fatalities, and change our way of life by allowing
us more free time during travels. The report further suggests that this may affect where people
chose to live (Canuma 7).
Energy industry
AI can help us make smart and informed decisions regarding our energy consumption
needs. For instance, tech giant companies such as Google require massive amounts of energy to
run their huge data centers. Google has applied AI in its platform called Deep Mind to determine
when the data centers will be too hot and activate the cooling engines only when necessary. In
doing so, AI has helped Google save approximately 40 percent of its energy consumption.
