ASDA is one of the best retailer of UK, that deals in supermarket sector and offers a wide
variety of groceries, financial service and grocery merchandising. It’s main mission to become
the best-value retailer of Britain, by exceeding the customer needs. To gain this objective, it
always concerns on making goods and service more affordable for all type of buyers, so that high
customer base can be developed (Jones and Comfort, 2020). For this purpose, its management is
mainly works on developing best organization which defines interaction and relationship among
different functions, including performance of each department. Since, it has a number of
functional departments like HRM, marketing, financial, sales, R&D more, therefore, formal
hierarchical organizational structure has been established in ASDA, as shown below –

This organizational structure helps in transforming information to each and every
department regularly, for identifying, analyzing and fulfilling customer’s demand on time. The
four main functions which help ASDA in promoting its products and services at large level,
includes financial management, HRM, marketing and operational management. Here, human
resource department help other other functions, in workforce development, by recruiting people,
providing them proper training to develop desired skills etc. Along with this, HR managers also
concerns on increasing collaboration among all departments, so that interaction can be made for
way to meet customers’ demand (Alexander, 2020). Similarly, marketing department is mainly
concerned on determining current trends of marketplace, competitors’ strategy and identifying
demand of customers, etc. for promoting business of ASDA in such a market, where high
competition is present. While operational department concerns on utilizing each and every
resource effectively, with reduction the additional expenses and minimize production costs. This
function also focuses on way to achieve the organizational objectives in set period of time, by
providing each and every information related to way of improving performance of other
functions, to exceed shopper’s experience at its stores.
Thus, it has evaluated from above analysis, that all functions are interlinked with each
other, where roles and responsibilities of every department cannot be performed efficiently
without interaction with others. The financial division helps entire departments in meeting their
capital requirement, for conducting their tasks (Jones and Comfort, 2020). While HRM give
support to other functions in getting workforce without whom, it is not possible to run a business
effectively. Therefore, human resource managers interact with each and every department to
identify number of workers, they require for performing assign duties. So, having hierarchical
organizational structure at workplace, help ASDA in making collaboration among entire
functional departments, to gain high contribution of them in achievement of its set objectives.
