INTRODUCTION
Workers play a significant role in success of a business organisation as these are the one
that perform various job roles at workplace. For satisfy the needs of customers and to satisfy the
needs of its customers it is very important for a business organisation to have a skilled workforce
(Armstrong and Taylor, 2014). Employer is the who remain responsible to develop and maintain
good relations with employees as this provide various long term benefits to a business
organisation. It is very important for both employer and employee to perform their duties at
workplace and they should have information related with their rights. ASDA, a British
supermarket retailer that deals in financial services, grocery and general merchandise is consider
in this report for study. Significance of employee relations for a business organisation and
fundamentals of employment law is all given in this report. Further, various type obligations,
rights and duties of both employee and employer is all included in this. In addition to this,
positive and negative impact of employee relations on stakeholders of entity is all mentioned in
this report.

P1 Value and importance of employee relations
Various individuals work in an enterprise share some values and certain relation with
other employees working there. Every person want and individuals to talk, share happiness and
discuss ideas. It is very essential for workers to share a healthy relation with each other working
in enterprise. Employer remain responsible to create and maintain good relations with employees
so they can perform better and issues can be resolved. Significance of employee relations for a
business organisation can be understood by following points:ď‚· Help in take better business decision together: Every employee require some guidance
and advice in order to work well (Brunckhorst, 2013). Fellow workers are the one that
help an individual to achieve set goals. Before introduce any change at workplace or
before start working on a project opinions of every employee should be encouraged.ď‚· Make the work more easy: Healthy and good relations with fellow members help in
increase productivity of employees. When responsibilities are divided among among
team members then it help in complete the project more easily. A good relations with

other employees working in enterprise advice and individuals how he can perform better
and can attain its set goals.ď‚· Develop and maintain healthy working environment: When an individual share a better
relation with other employees, discuss and share issues then it help in develop positive
environment at workplace. Healthy environment increase productivity of workers which
increase profits of entity. All this also results in employee satisfaction and help entity to
retain them for long time period.ď‚· Motivate employee to work well: Positive work environment and good relations with
other employees working in enterprise encourage workers to perform well. All this
ensure completion of business operations in time and at the same time help entity in
satisfy the needs of its customers in better way (Dries, 2013). Overall good employee
relations improve productivity and profits of enterprise.ď‚· Healthy relations reduce the grounds of rise conflicts: When workers working in an
organisation share a good relation with each other then it improve their understanding
which reduce the ground of rise conflicts at workplace and at the same time encourage
development and working of a team. For example: if workers working in ASDA share a
good relation then they can work effectively in team and through this entity can complete
complex business projects and at the same time generate more number of profits.
ď‚· Reduce absenteeism: Good relations with other employees help individual in enjoy their
job role and work and this reduce rate of absenteeism. This help entity in increase the
number of its profits and also serve a competitive benefit to enterprise.

is very important for employer to do all efforts to develop and maintain good relations with

Employment law is to describe all rules, regulations and laws that define the behaviour of
employer and employee at workplace. Before develop compensation packages and formulate
policies in order to manager employee's behaviour at workplace, it is very important for manager
of ASDA to study all major factors related with employment law (Kavanagh and Johnson,
2017). One of the one benefit of this is that it help in develop and maintain good relations with
workers which is very necessary for a business organisation to attain its set goals. With this
manager can create and offer healthy working environment to employees which improve their
productivity.ď‚· Minimum wage act: This act of employment law state that an employer is responsible to
offer minimum wage to all employees so they can fulfil the basic needs and requirements
of their life such as cloth, shelter and food. Government is the one which determine the
rate of minimum wage as per the inflation and deflation exist in market. This help in
retain employees for long time period and help them in fulfil the basic needs of their
routine life.ď‚· Anti Discrimination act: According to this act there should be no discrimination at
workplace. Manager remain responsible to treat all employees with same respect and
dignity. When employer does discrimination among employees on basis of their age,
gender, colour, culture, religion and on any other basis then this decrease their morale
and increase employee's turnover. So it is very important for employer to do not
discriminate among employees and treat all staff members with same respect and
dignity.
ď‚· Health and safety act: This act state that employer remain responsible to create ad offer
healthy work environment to workers as this increase their productivity and provide
various other benefits to entity. It come under the responsibility of manager to conduct
training programmes for employees so they can learn how to handle or operate risky

accidents at workplace and help in maintain the productivity of employees. It is very
important for manager of ASDA to conduct training programmes for employees so they
can learn how to work with new technology and can perform their job roles in effective

workplace on basis of gender. Both men and women working at workplace should have
an equal opportunity to get promotion and equal treatment should be given to them. One
of the main benefit of this is that it helps in create and maintain a positive work
environment which improve employee’s productivity which increase company’s profits.
ď‚· Disability discrimination act 2005: This act state that disable employees who work in
enterprise should get fair and equal treatment just like other employees and should not be

understanding. There are few rights, duties and obligations of both employees and employers
which are needed to be fulfilled by both the parties.
Rights of employees:
All employees are protected from any kind of discrimination in workplace by employment and
federal laws, every employee is entitled of negotiating flexible work arrangements (Pilbeam and
Corbridge, 2010). Every employee is entitled to have basic rights such as fair compensation,
having safe and healthy workplace, freedom from any discrimination based on age, gender, race,

religion etc. They have right to know about all hazards and dangers of the workplace, also has
right to refuse working in a hazardous and unsafe working environment.
Rights of employer:
Employers are the authorised personnel who has rights to appoint or dismiss any employee after
giving prior notice and with proper procedures, employers has right to be informed of every
function and activity performed by employees at workplace. They have right to restrict any
discriminative activity in the organisation which effects employees.
Duties of employees:
Every employee has a duty to corporate with their employer, they are responsible for

2011). It is a duty of employer to provide reasonable amount of work and compensate employees
with proper compensation against their work performed. Consider and fix the problems reported
by the employees, train the employees in accordance of their contract, ensures adequate safety
and health equipments in workplace.
Obligations of employee:
Every employee is obliged to be honest with their employer and the organisation and to
do the work assigned to them in agreed upon working hours. They should follow all the

environment as this motivate employees to perform well and this increase their productivity.

by manager of ASDA in order to carry out stakeholder analysis.ď‚· Identify your stakeholders: This is the first which is start by brainstorming in order to
identify who are the stakeholders (Bethke-Langenegger, Mahler and Staffelbach, 2011).
