It is not appropriate to ignore the possible effect that process improvements may have
on clients. In certain ways when it comes to physical improvements, shops are required
to render them after hours and out of reach in order to avoid adversely impacting the
consumer experience. Typically, this problem slows or restricts the improvements a
store will easily introduce.
Store managers are actively adjusting working hours to decrease labour costs in an
attempt to maintain profitability. This persistent constraint makes it impossible for
employees to function without compromising other store functions on process changes.
It can be daunting to see the sheer amount of everyday or weekly processes in retail
stores, so process development is always moved to the back of the priority list. Lean
working is a methodology that uses a combination of techniques and instruments to
reduce duplication, maximise productivity, satisfy consumers and, eventually, prosper.
