The practical assignment provides enables you to develop a project plan as a report as a
proposed structure of an assessment method of online learning environment followed by
developing an assessment tool for online learning environment.
Part 1: Project Proposal
In the first part of assignment you have to review various course materials, external
literatures regarding the topic. After that you have to propose a detailed assessment method
for online learning environment with justification. Make sure that your project proposal
report has the following points included:
 Introduction about the topic and your project

 Discussion on assessment methods and concepts with evidences
 Proposed Plan of the Assessment in Online Platform with justifications
 Action Plan
In order to prepare for your work read your course and text readings and use the Online
Library to expand your information. Gather adequate knowledge regarding the following
points:
 Assessment principles and their contributions in online learning
 Quality measures of assessment methods in online learning

 Authenticity and engagement in assessment for online learning platform
 Strategy and Framework for planning assessment method or tool for online learning
platform
 Utilisation of digital technologies, designs and software and further opportunities
To support your work, use your course and text readings and use the Online Library to
expand your information. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide
references for the citations in APA format. The font of this report should be in Times new
roman, 12pt. The cover page should include topic, student name and student_id.
For the project proposal part, make sure you upload the project proposal as a digital
document using any “word” based digital documentation software (such as MSWord) to
the Project Proposal Submission Area by August 5th, 2020
Final Project
After submitting the proposal, you have to design and develop your own assessment process
using CANVAS. The online assessment process should also include the marking rubric. You
have to also add digital images, videos, instructions as per the principles of Multimedia
Theory discussed in your course material.
First, you have to learn about the using procedures of CANVAS to develop assessment
process. To support your work, use your course and text readings and user manual regarding
the use of CABVAS online platform. You have to show your critical thinking and ability to
practically implementing your knowledge.
For the final project part, make sure you upload link of CANVAS along with the screenshot
of the your developed assessment tool to the Final Project Submission Area by December
10th, 2020

Slide 1: Assessment as a part of online learning environment
The purpose of the assessment process in learning activates is to analyse and evaluate the
level of competency the students have developed through the learning process that will help
to recover the deficiency in students’ learning and to make progression into the further level
of learning. In online platform, the assessment process serves similarly, where the practical
implementation of the assessment process differs from the conventional assessment
procedures. Since, in this case the learning process is dependent on digital technology the
assessment procedures are also developed by using digital technology and multimedia.
Slide 2: Advantages and contributions of online assessment process
Through online assessment process the needs of physical accommodation or facilitation of
the students can be ignored. Similarly in offline assessment process like written exam, the
roles of invigilator is major where, in online example these roles are not needed. Because of
the utilisation of multimedia the online assessment procedures are more motivational as well
as flexible for the learners as well.

The quality of assessment in online platform is highly associated with the authenticity and the
engagement of the assessment process. Authenticity of the assessment process implies how
much the assessment is relevant to the learning procedures and objectives as well as how

reliably the assessment process can assess the competency, knowledge, skill, understating and
transfer of learning of students. The quality measurement of engagement depends on how
much the assessment process is able to engage the students actively.
Slide 4: Assessment methods for online platform
There are multiple assessment methods that can be used as authentic and engaging procedure.
One of the authentic assessment method is marking rubric where the scores of associated
competency levels for each performance criteria. Another online assessment tool is online
question answer where the student have to answer question by filling the online answer sheet
and each questions consists respective scores. Other commonly used online assessment
methods as E-portfolio, Journals, Projects and Group Work.

Part 2: Course Project Reflection
One of the strategies that I utilized to address attention in online learning module is
the use of effective multimedia content that consists of relevant images, videos, instructions.
It is a strategy that is intended to enhance the clarity and simplicity of learning process
through natural learning and understanding. While developing the learning module through
CANAVS the utilisation of multimedia content can be found in course instruction, guidelines
and tutorials. The other strategy is making the interface user-friendly so that the students
would feel attracted to the course materials in the online module.
One of the strategies to address the memory is the utilization of question based
discussion section in the module. The questions in discussion section aims at enhancing
exploration among students to retain whatever they will have learnt. In order to answer the
questions and discuss in the discussion forum the learners have to memorise the concepts,
theories, terms and definitions of the topic. After an accomplishing the assignment, the
student will be better placed in understanding the course program better than without a task
(Fee, 2013).
Design and development of the practical assessment method would help to
incorporate and address the critical thinking in learning module. In order to develop the
assessment method by themselves with proper justifications for the chosen method students
to critically analyse the course content and come up with relevant solutions concerning what
they have learnt in class (Chu, 2014). The other strategy is developing the creative thinking
and implementation skill. To build the creative thinking and implementation skill in learning
activity 2 second part a practical online assessment process development project has been
added. The creating thinking and problem solving include but not limited to making small

predictions, thinking hypothetically, using digital technology (CANAVAS) and continual
gaining of knowledge.
Connecting of theory and practice have been used as strategies to come up with a
cognitively optimized online course. There is both the theory and the practical part in helping
to understand (Nakayama, Mutsuura & Yamamoto, 2014). Theory and practice, makes it
possible for students to experience a long-term comprehension.
