INTRODUCTION
This report will look at the various aspects of the development of a health and fitness
application. This report will also include a Gantt chart to elaborate the project plan, a description
of the project scope including a discussion of cost required to complete the project, social media
integration, in-app purchase, app customisation, testing and launch of the app, the risk involved
in the completion of project and feasibility and sustainability of the project.
PROJECT PLAN
Astra Plc is a small sized company specializing in vitamin and mineral based food
supplements. The company is looking to diversify its portfolio by launching a new health and
fitness app in the next three months.
Project Scope:
People these days live a really busy life, and they often tend to ignore how important it is
to stay fit and focus on their health. To live a healthy life one must maintain his / her physique
and energy of body which comes from doing regular exercise and by playing sports. As
important it is to do physical exercise, people also need to keep a check on the sugar, blood
pressure and heart rate. This can be facilitated with the help of fitness trackers and the increased
use of fitness trackers has highlighted the need of fitness applications (Żabińska, 2020).
There are multiple fitness apps that are present in the market like Runtastic, Fitbit,
Google Fit, Apple Health etc. and also there are various app development companies who built
these types of apps for their clients. Designing and development of these apps requires higly
technical persons, so it is generally outsourced by the companies. Astra plc will look at the cost
factor and identify that its more feasible for the company to outsource the development of
application as it will reduce the cost significantly. App development companies charge anywhere
between £ 2,925 and £ 7,675 (Ndayizigamiye, Kante and Shingwenyana, 2020). Although the
total cost depends upon the feature that are included in the app, these feature are selected by the
client which is Astra plc in this case. Development of a fitness app costs between a few thousand
pounds to hundreds of thousands of pounds. This cost is dependent on the feature like; alerts and
reminders for the users, rewards and promotions, graphs and analysed data, feature of sharing
achievements on various platforms. In short the more complex the app is and the more complex
features it contains; higher will be the cost of designing.

It's not enough to build a fitness app, the company is supposed to promote it too, to make
it available to users and get them to know about the app as well. There are various forms of
advertising techniques available for Astra plc, they can also include social media integration
feature in their app so that the current users can share their achievements and goals on social
media, which will eventually promote the app and get more users. Furthermore after building the
app Astra plc will test and run it on a trial basis in the market to check its feasibility and to
ensure that its working properly, this will help the company to find bugs and fix them (Bastos
and et. al, 2019).
Project Risk:
Development of a health and fitness app comes with various risks, these risks are to be
thoroughly evaluated and assessed in order to make the project a success. Potential risks
calculation and evaluation consists of the following stages:
1. Competitor analysis: There are multiple health and fitness apps in the market,
so to get a competitive edge the company should find some features and
solutions which will make the app unique. This can be done by analysing the
competitors with their product feature, design speciality, user interface, user
interview etc.
2. Target Audience: When the company will analyse its competitors, it will see
the issues and preferences of their consumers (Buckley and et. al, 2020). These
will help them in getting an insight about the mentality that consumers have
regarding such applications. The company can reach out to new target market
with the help of social networks, consumer groups, forums etc. The company
can read their posts and comments and then communicate with them to clarify
their needs.
3. Design: Most of the people don't use digital products with an unattractive and
monotonous layout and low response speed. To succeed in the market the
company has to gain a lot of loyal customers and satisfy their needs and keep
them entertained. So it has to make an attractive and beautiful health and fitness
app which will provide users with an amazing experience.
4. Testing and Launching: At this stage the developers and engineers check the
quality and of the health and fitness app. They also check for bugs and errors in
it available to users and get them to know about the app as well. There are various forms of
advertising techniques available for Astra plc, they can also include social media integration

the code and working of the application. The developers try and fix all the
issues. When everything is ready the app is released in the market. The app is
published on Google play store or/and App store. While doing this the company
does app store optimisation and take cares of the app icon, screens and
description.
Project Success:
The success of a health and fitness app depends on various factors. Astra plc will
consider the app a success when; it will be used by more than a million users with and average 4
star rating on App Store and Google Play Store. Analytical capabilities of the management and
the developers plays a major role in success of the app. The management and developers need to
evaluate every aspect of the app development and the project as whole (Palos-Sánchez, Saura
and Álvarez-García, 2019). They have to consider the cost and take the best possible decision
and choose the best possible alternative to minimise cost and make the business more profitable.
The team and skilled workers also play a really important part in the success of the
project, the management has to maintain and form a team of skilled employees who are
motivated and enthusiastic to work on a diversified project like the health and fitness app.
Employees must know the technical know-how of how things are done like that of managing the
app and providing users with the necessary solutions. They also will learn a lot of new skills and
gain experience. This will further motivate these employees to work hard and make the project
even bigger success.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion the author has highlighted the necessary requirement of the project plan,
which includes determining a framework to get the tasks required to complete the project done in
time and with utmost efficiency and effectiveness. The author further highlighted the project
scope which included the cost analysis of the project and the feature which will affect the cost of
developing the app. Project risks were further elaborated and the remedies to avoid loss were
also explained by the author. Project success depends on analytical thinking and creativity and
