Present research assignment has shed light on various undertaking, related to a specific area
of health and social care practices that are taken to help asylum seeker in health management.
This study also focuses on a research project that NHS (National Health Service) is proving
to refugees and to improve health and outcomes for people in England. National Health
Service (NHS) is major healthcare that provides healthcare facility to all. Social policy
changes for elderly people in residential care that will be done by them. This is a barrier that
NHS overcome to help asylum seeker to access healthcare in every society.
LO1
AC 1.1 Formulating and recording outline of research project
NHS is facing many health care issues such that growing population which tends to be a big
problem because more staff members are required to be taken care of patients. As mentioned
by Phelps et al (2017), many advanced levels of techniques are required for health checkup
which sometimes is not possible for NHS to get as it runs on only taxation. Required
techniques are mostly being delayed due to this and patients or asylum seekers don't get
healthcare most of the time. Another bigger issue is care for older people more than 65-year
cost much more that sometimes increases health cost and leads to health inflation according
to economists. Average annual rise has been slowed down by just over 4% in previous year,
this average drop has resulted in decrease of providing healthcare facilities and services to
migrants and asylum seekers those are seeking for services.
Objectives
● To analyze the factors that are required for the asylum seekers to get health care
services
● To evaluate the effects of policies on asylum seekers
● To understand the challenges faced by the asylum seekers
● To suggest recommendations for overcoming the challenges
Research questions

AC 1.2 Factors contributing research process
Research project will be based on interviews and group discussion among asylum seekers
such that they can understand necessary steps that can be taken by them to provide best
services to migrants and those seekers. They will collaborate with researchers, policymakers
and third parties to find whether all asylum seekers are getting healthcare facilities. As said
by Beckfield et al. (2015), new techniques will be used to help asylum seekers in getting
health services. With taking of previous data analysis NHS will try to provide better facilities
to asylum seekers and contribute medical aid, nutrition checkup to those migrants and asylum
seekers. Inadequate knowledge and skills, experience and supervision are taken by NHS so
that better facilities can be provided to asylum seekers. Environment factors are also a main
contribution that helps them to provide a healthy environment to asylum seekers such that
without interruption, distraction and good staffing adequate services are provided to asylum
seekers.
AC 1.3 Critical review of references
Asylum Seeker
An asylum seeker is an individual who runs away from the home country to enter into
another country and get application for asylum which denotes the right to get international
protection. Asif et al. (2015) are of the view that the asylum seeker can be a displaced person
or a refugee and is a kind of migrant though not an economic migrant. However, migrants are
not required to be asylum seekers. An individual can become asylum seeker through formal
applications for remaining in another country and keeping that status until the conclusion of
that application. However, the seeker can be recognised as the illegal immigrant.

Figure 1: Social cognitive theory
(Source: learner)
As per the social cognitive theory, the acquisition of the knowledge of an individual has a
direct relation with the observation of others in relation to experiences, social interactions and
outside the influence of media. This implies that the individuals can get knowledge through
effective communication and interaction with the communities (Drummond et al. 2015). In
this context, the asylum seekers are facing the problems of getting required health care
services due to language barrier. They are unable to come to the mainstream due to long
process of documentation and social identity crises. Moreover, the health care practitioners
discriminate then which results in mental and physical problems. Bad experiences of the
asylum seekers in respect to the health care services have been reason of their trauma for
seeking adequate health care services.
Health belief model
It is a psychological model that helps in explaining and predicting health behaviours. It
implies that an individual will consider of taking health related action if that person
experiences negative emotions or feelings arising out of poor health condition. Ahadzadeh et
al. (2015) are of the view that it has been divided into four constructs namely the net benefits,
perceived threats, perceived benefits, perceived barriers and perceived severity. In this
context, the asylum seekers can get adequate health care services if they get the perceived
benefits of advanced health care services. In other words, the health care settings should
ensure effective health care services to the asylum seekers so that they can have good feelings

seekers pose challenges for the service providers rather they should give adequate time in
solving the emerging issues of asylum seekers. Positive reinforcements can help in having
positive beliefs and attitudes regarding health services.
Attachment theory
As per this theory, the health practitioners are required to develop a cordial relationship with
the service users so that they can improve their lifestyle. Sohler et al. (2015) commented that
this ensures that the health practitioners provide advanced medical care practices to the
service users for enable them to live a healthy living. In this context, the asylum seekers are
required to give advanced healthcare services like palliative care services and Telehealth
services so that they are not deprived of a healthy living. Sharing of relevant data and
information can help the health practitioners to give the required medical services to the
users. Stringent policies can ensure cordial relation with the asylum seekers so that they can
get required mental and physical benefits in NHS. This can help in reducing the costs and lag
in delivering advanced medical services to asylum seekers.
Uncertainty about mental health related to asylum seekers
Certain factors that affect mental health issue of asylum seekers are their respect uncertainty
and their powerlessness among destination nation. As opined by Murphy et al. (2017),
research poses certain traumatic experience and during UK journey it is reviewed that, there
has been a remarked situation of mental health depression anxiety (PTSD). People those are
migrants should be given information about health services that are provided by NHS. The
department of health care will currently look view on condition to access NHS treatment
including those are seeking refugee status. Several reports will be taken by NHS to give high
prevalence to asylum seekers such that daily checkup process will be taken to give service to
asylum seekers. On the other hand, better sanitation improved standard of living and
revolutionized vaccination programmers are also started by NHS to give better medical cure.
Effects of policies on asylum seekers
Based on research review it has been found that government policy has been changed and
aimed at decreasing immigration. As mentioned by Feo and Kitson et al. (2016), this has
made difficulties in accessing mental health services in context of asylum seekers. Based on
this hostile environment, there has been a significant effect on their respective team. During
2017, there was a transformation among healthcare treatment policy that is treatment costing
must be paid before treatment process. Based on research review it can be stated that there is
a need for improving healthcare service to asylum seekers so that they would avail effective
healthcare services through NHS. Integrating voices of asylum seekers and their respective

consequences has led to a conclusion that there should be a consideration on accessing
primary healthcare services to asylum seekers.
Challenges faced by asylum seekers
Certain challenges and issues have been addressed through literature review. Few of the
asylum seekers have spent many years in refugee camps with no healthcare services
provided to them and failed to avail healthcare provisions. Most of them came from low-
income countries with a high outcome to disease but due to low income cannot get healthcare
facilities. As said by Rees et al. (2016), NHS would have to provide them with better life and
perspective services with respect to healthcare. On the other side, local events take place
across the country to seek if asylum seekers are present and services can be provided to them
by their staff members.
AC 1.4 Producing specification of research project
It is the process used to collect information and data to make decisions. The methodology
also includes interviews and surveys that include primary or secondary concept. As said by
Jin et al. (2016), primary concept basically defines data taken from journals, online articles or
books. On the other hand, secondary concept means data taken from website and represent
how it is affecting their problems. In case of primary, a survey of 51 people is conducted on
asylum seekers that are based mainly on the impact faced by them on health and social care
by giving an open-ended questionnaire to 51 respondents. As mentioned by Wang et al.
(2018), according to primary research asylum seekers sometimes face problem on health
facilities like with new place they lack of communication gap among members which tends to
be a big problem while health seeking. On the other hand by socially asylum seekers are
mostly rejected by others. Providing financial and housing support can help them to face their
problem. Providing legal advice to asylum seekers may help them to follow rules in society.
As mentioned by Baxter et al. (2016), discussions on how to help adult asylum seekers to get
employment is a major problem that can help asylum seekers. Arranging of education to
young people in face to face discussion can socially help asylum seekers to give knowledge
and help them to face challenges.
AC 1.5 Producing procedures and plan

visiting nearby places, giving advertisements on papers or magazines can help to collect data
and information. About 51 samples will be taken by random probability method in which
equal probabilities of value are to be chosen to get the result.
M1: Identification and application of strategies
Various strategies will be provided to asylum seekers such as they will treat different asylum
seekers depending on their background. For example, those people who are illiterate shall be
provided with language training so that they can communicate with others. Secondly, those
asylum seekers will be given help to find employment such as prior waiting period so that
asylum seekers can legally work.
M2: Selection of appropriate methods
Based on the survey of 51 people data provided by them will be taken both as validity and
reliability. Invalidity, when relevant data measures outcome has a good and internal
consistency than the measure, is valid with results. On the other hand, when data provided in
survey are to be accurate and trustworthy according to survey then reliable in condition.
D1: Critical reflection for valid conclusions
An asylum seeker gaining for health care services needs multiple factors such as language
barriers which mostly seekers gets problem while seeking healthcare facility. As opined by
Greenhalgh et al. (2016), due to unknown language mostly asylum seekers do not understand
their languages and gets problem while in health services. They also need to know local
languages while getting services. Then asylum seekers lack of knowledge on new health care
system also gives barriers in healthcare service. Due to new place asylum seekers probably
gets bullied by other people. An important issue has been shown that healthcare providers
were mainly concerned that decision making about placement of asylum seekers must be
purely on accommodation facility and should be provided with better healthcare services.
Another research focused that asylum seekers had difficulties working with and
understanding cultural differences. Thus this concludes that asylum seekers on relating health
and social care have to face problems in different ways and methods and to overcome them
they had to take different steps regarding health and social care.

AC 2.1 Resources for the research question
The research questions that have been evaluated in this context are done through monitoring
processes where it has been seen that the asylum seekers are facing the challenges of getting
required care services in the social and health care setting. It has been found by the Equalities
and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) that the people who are seeking asylum in the UK
face many barriers for getting access to healthcare services like the NHS. Wang et al. (2018)
are of the view that psychologists play a vital role in helping the asylum seekers to get access
to the effective social and health care services. The monitoring process involves that they
refused asylum seekers can gain to all services of NHS for free of cost for getting the
required services. In this context, both the primary and secondary sources have been used for
getting the required information of the challenges for asylum seekers in getting required
health care services.
AC 2.2 Undertaking proposed research
All the clinical patients are given a social assessment form with a trained volunteer. This
form has captured a varied range of elements like the history of the person comprising of
experiences in the migration process, social connections, friendship support, status of
migration and accessibility to services. The primary quantitative data has been collected from
the asylum service users who have the accessibility to the services of NHS. Survey has been
conducted on 51 respondents through closed ended questionnaires.
