Attributes or personality traits that make project managers better at
managing risk:
The basic and primary role that has to be maintained by a project manager is based on
the management and the ability and the capability of the project manager in performing and
delivering ideas on the situations of risks that can impact over the project that the company or
the organization is dealing with.
For controlling and managing the dynamic working environment with the concern of
maintaining the success of the project it can be agreed that attributes or personality traits are
essential aspects of making a project manager better at managing the risk of the organization
as well as the project (Jepson, Kirytopoulos & London, 2017).
The attributes that are necessary to have by a project manager in mitigating the risks
that have impacted the project are as follows:
1. Leadership: Project managers that have the potential within themselves in being a
creative leader with ample of practical implementation thought process are more
successful in managing the risk as the instant solutions from them helps in mitigating
the complexity that has aroused in the project proceeding.
2. Effective Communication skill: The extra effort and the capability possessed by a
project manager in communicating with the stakeholders and the team mates of the
project on the same matter and same time, helps to mitigate the communication
barrier between the stakeholder’s demands and the project team. It also helps to
mitigate the risks as the communication is based on the quality of listening of a
project manager as it helps to understand the risks and the problem faced in the
project. The listening quality allows focusing on the experts by continually listening

to them that are assigned for the project as risk situations develop in the
commencement of the work.
3. Ability to cope with situations: The various stages in the project face risks and
conflicts within the project proceedings that indulge the stakeholders and the project
team members. The attribute of the project manager to cope with conflicting
situations helps in facing the tough situations (Heagney, 2016). The project manager
initiates the team work to mitigate the risks in the project with a high problem solving
ability.

A project manager is required to have essential and effective attributes that are mainly
helpful to a project team in mitigating the risks and complexity of the project. The project
managers are most importantly required to become efficient leaders. The leadership skills
or the attributes are at few extents possessed by born in some of the project managers.
However, the skills and attributes or the personality traits like the efficient
communication skill, coping skills, problem solving skills and team management skills
are needed by the managers to acquire from skill development programs.
