C. The workplace safety officer.
D. All answers are correct.
3. What precautions should be taken when using compressed air?
The operator must ensure that they should never direct the nozzle of compressed air towards their body or else
injection of air bubble into the blood can lead to fatal embolism.
Always wear mask and safety goggles, because there are possibilities of dislodging metal particles or wood.
4. List three (3) precautions that are needed in relation to workshop machines
1 Always wear safety shoes, helmets and eyeglasses.
2 Malfunctioning in machine can occur, it is important to repair the machine after turning it off.
3 Always use safety tools and do not operate machine without the safety shields.
5. What are some safety issues concerning the use of power tools?
All the machinery must be electrically grounded.
Never operate any power tool in presence of combustion material near it. Any spark can easily ignite combustibles.
The cords and wires of machinery must not be left lying on ground, it might cause hazards due to tripping.

6. What does a ratchet and socket allow you to do?
Ratchet and socket are used in combination. Through this user can turn the fastener without repositioning
the tools on the fastener. It allows the operator to tighten or loosen the nuts with ease. Also the socket fits
completely around the fastener so it is less likely to slip.

An air ratchet is used for tightening or loosening a multiple number of low to medium sizes torque bolts.
They are used when threads and bolt heads do not need to be damaged through impact wrench.
37. What are blowguns used for?
Blowguns are used for the applications which require compressed air such as removal of debris, blowing and non-
contact drying.
These are typically used in various manufacturing industries and laboratories to deliver a steady stream of
compressed air.
38. What precautions should be taken when using compressed air?
Following precautions should be considered while using compressed air:
1. It should be used in conjunction with nozzle approved by Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA).
2. Always check the air compressor to identify any signs of damage before each use.
39. Why should you NEVER force compressed air against your skin?
Compressed air can eject particles depending upon its pressure. These particles can be dangerous if they enter
skin and cause damage.
Compressed air can also enter the body where skin does not exist such as nose and ears.

41. Explain what a floor jack is and how it’s used?
A floor jack is an equipment used to lift heavy loads or apply great forces off the ground during repair and
maintenance.
To use a floor jack firstly, the equipment such as car is set on parking mode and put the hand break on. Place
something strong behind the wheels. Locate the floor jack and handle. Jack must be located underneath car and
place the floor jack to fit in. Fix the handle and turn it clockwise to raise car to the desired height. After finishing,

inflatable support.
It is used to lift cars to refuel and replacing the tires.
43. On jacks, hoist and jack stands, you’ll find the Safe Working Load on them. What does Safe Working Load
mean?
Safe working load (SWL)refers to the maximum safe force which a lifting equipments, accessory or lifting device
can provide to suspend, lower or lift objects without the fear of damages.
They are marked on the devices or equipments by manufacturer.
44. Why should you NEVER exceed the Safe Working Load of jacks, hoist and jack stands?
Safe working limit should not be exceeded as the jacks can fail and place danger.
Hydraulics can fail if they are used to lifting under pressure when not maintained properly.
Wedge chocks must be chocked under vehicle to avoid rolling of vehicle when lifting.
45. You should NEVER work under a vehicle that is supported by only the jack, why? And how should the vehicle
be supported?
The failure to support a hard surface can cause vehicle to slip off or roll off the jack.
To support the vehicle jack stands must be placed under appropriate parts of that vehicle and then lower it onto the
stand.
46. Why are lifting points of a vehicle important?
Lifting points are important because when vehicle is raised or lowered, travelling of it in arc can cause the vehicle to
roll off the jack.
Lifting points ensures the jack wheels are facing the appropriate direction and roll without binding.
47. When using a vehicle hoist, what should ALWAYS be engaged before working under the vehicle?
When using a vehicle host, lift equipment's safety features must be engaged before working under vehicle.
Lift equipment's safety features will ensure the completion of work with many safety features such as arm restraints,
anti sway blocks and arm restraints.

They are used for removing shaft mounted components without damaging the machine component or th vehicle.
58. Identify the sealing equipment below.
Manual silicone gun
Cordless Adhesive Gun Kit
59. What are the advantages that hot melt adhesives have over solvent based adhesives?
1. The drying step is eliminated if hot adhesives are used instead of solvent based adhesive.
2. The volatile organic compounds can be eliminated or reduced.
3. They have long shelf life and can be disposed off without special precautions.

60. Explain the seven (7) step on how to use silicone gun?
A silicone gun can be used through following steps:
1. Press release at the rear of gun with thumb by releasing plunger at the backside of gun.
2. Pull the plunger back and put tube into gun by putting nozzle in front.
3. Push plunger into the back of tube and remove thumb to load the gun.
4. To match the size of gap, cut the tip of cartridge.
5. To puncture inner seal, push a nail or pin through the nail.
6. Hold gun and gap at 45 degree angles.
7. Squeeze gun handle slowly. Repeat the process to apply more caulk. Smooth out excess caulk when done.

61. Describe the steps to safely select and use workplace tools and equipment?
The following steps are followed:
1. Assess and evaluate risks associated with workplace tools and equipment before use.
2. Consider the employee and machine interactions and review Tagout and Tagout processes.
3. Ensuring the protective devices such as light curtains, hand controls and doors etc.
4. Ensuring appropriate administrative measures such as signs, lights protocol training, personal protective
equipments and horns etc. to engineer control.
5. Ask various question to analyse adequacy of risk reduction measures.
6. Conduct regular safety inspections and maintenance and use the machine.
62. What is Lockout/Tagout?
A Lockout or Tagout is a safety program which helps to prevent contact with danger when performing the tasks
which require removal or deactivation of safe guarding devices.
