The author of this particular source is James Jupp. It was published in the year 2018 and
this book has been taken from Jstor. This book contains various issues from the time when
Australia had been under the rule of Great British Empire. The British Empire has been a power
that has controlled a huge portion of the world in different times. In the eighteenth century, they
had conquered various parts of Australia as well. In this book, the oppressions on the Native
Aboriginal people in Australia have been discussed properly.1 It reflects the kind of firm control
the British people had over their colonies. In fact, the ways of influencing the cultures and
religions have also been discussed in this book as well. This book has also portrayed about the
time when Australia achieved a great time and it was called the Golden Age. The establishment
of peace and order has also been described in this book.
In this section, the analysis of the reading or the book will be made. In this book, the
author has described about the settlement of peace and order in the British colony of Australia in
the 19th century. The author has discussed that the main aim of the British Empire was to set up a
good government that would always bear peace and order. He has also brought about the fact
British rulers were very much concerned about the social and political orders in the country. This
is why they hold the entire control while other native people were regarded as inferiors. The
rulers were forceful in establishing peace in the country. In the second half of the 19th century,
Australia was under the rule of Queen Victoria directly and population of Victoria went seven
times high between 1851 and 1860 since people came there to dig gold. The convict settlement
was created between 1788 and 1840 in New South Wales. The society was built on the British

and Irish immigration with the help of the state. The British colonies founded Australia in the
year 1788 and used it as the prison on the shore of Pacific Ocean. The author is of the opinion
that this complex society of Australia has its beginning in the British settlement of earlier times.
It was used as a prison in the preliminary stages since the British realized that their prisoner
inmates will not be able to escape.2 This is why it can be said that this book has brought out the
essential elements of the British colonization in the state of Australia. The author has discussed
about the harmonious co-existence of many Europeans from other parts of the continent except
from Protestant Northern Europeans from Germany and Scandinavia. The situation of provinces
like Tasmania and New South Wales after the arrival of thousands of convicts has been
discussed with minute details. He also exclaimed that many diseases began to spread in different
provinces of the country as well among indigenous and native Australians.
