AI Summary
This report provides an overview of conservation efforts in Australia, highlighting the rich ecological community and biodiversity of the region. It discusses the impact of European settlement, natural events, and human activities on the ecological system, emphasizing the need for conservation strategies. The report focuses on the Australian government's initiatives, including the Australia’s Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2030, and the roles of various governmental and non-governmental organizations. It examines the assessment and evaluation of these strategies, including the reviews and public consultations. The report also touches upon the influence of research in conservation biology on environmental management and the importance of addressing biodiversity-related issues across multiple jurisdictions to meet international obligations.

1ABSTRACT
Australia has been a center of rich ecological community and biodiversity as it is a home
to several species that are rare or extinct. Around 85% of the flora and the 84% of fauna
consisting of mammals that includes 45% of birds and 89% of sea creatures who are temperate
zone fishes are endemic and only found in Australia. After the extinction of European settlement
in Australia, an extensive clearance of native vegetation took place or were fragmented into
habitats. Moreover, natural events such as fire, drought, flood and human activity has led to the
deterioration of the ecological system. These factors affect the interaction between ecological
communities that reduces the biodiversity and risks the survival of many local species. The topic
for research will be to support the bodies of Natural Resource Management including regional
authorities and local government by providing framework that follows the national and
international environmental priorities in Australia.
Australian government is using several conservation strategies for the conservation of
biodiversity and several scientific research is taking place for the wellbeing of the flora and
fauna of the country. Research in conservation biology influences the environmental
management and assessments are done to check how effectively it is utilized as a conservation
strategy. Some of the government and non-government organizations that work for the
restoration of Australian environment includes Australian Conservation Foundation, Australian
Wildlife Society, Conservation Volunteers Australia, Natural Heritage Trust Australia and many
others.
One of the strategy known as Australia’s Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2030
was started in 2010 and its agenda was to conserve the national diversity till 2030. The aim of
this strategy is to coordinate efforts in the national level in all the departments to increase the
sustainability of biological resources that are needed to meet the survival requirements of the

population that will ensure health, resilience and viability. This strategy gives a review in every 5
years that generates a framework for the activities that are implemented for the conservation. The
Australian government assesses and evaluates the outcome of this strategy and the previous
review was released in 2015. The review suggested that they needed improvement in several
aspects in the management of certain environmental issues that included biodiversity related
issues and its reach to multiple jurisdictions. The convention on biological diversity that is
related to the international obligations could have been improved. Public consultations were used
to get reviews and inputs from the outer body that would help in implementing better strategies
for the conservation of biodiversity.
