1SCRIPT
Through the following script I have tried to shed light on one of the most common
family dispute among the Australia households. For many couples who have children, the
process of telling their children about their decision to get divorced becomes the time of
sadness and dread. In Australian society, children with divorced parents are increasingly
becoming a norm as near about half of the marriages in Australia end in divorce. However,
for children, divorce can be a very hard time and also for parents, who love their children a
lot and do not want to hurt them in any way. I have tried to highlight the same through the
role play. I have elaborated on how Max Milla (the father) is unable to sleep as all his good
old memories with his wife Alexa Milla keeps on haunting him. They both have already
planned to divorce each other but due to some circumstances, none of them has yet told their
children about this. Max decides to talk to his children the very next morning itself. Both
Alexa and Max tried to convince their children (Claire and Thomson). Thomson and Claire
were deeply hurt and they left the dining place. Both Max and Alexa too were sad. Max was
just thinking about his old memories with Alexa and was wishing if Alexa could have never
changed the way he thinks she has. Suddenly Alexa entered the room and said Max that she
just want her children to be happy and she guess that their happiness lies in their
togetherness. Hence, they planned to quit their decision of divorce. The main aim of my work
is to let the viewer know that divorce or separation is not the ultimate solution. Sometimes,
parents should also consider the happiness of their children, the happiness of their beloved
before taking such decision. Also, they should think twice before taking such sort of
decisions and try to fix the things at first. There might be even more glorious solution of it
instead of getting detached from each other for the whole life. The main challenge that I
faced in developing the work was that of solving the issue. I was unable to decide whether to
make the end of the play separating the couple or make a resolution in between the two.
Finally, I decided that the second option would give a better moral to the viewer.

3SCRIPT
Father: Listen child, your mom and dad are not happy together right now and we want to take
a time out from each other in order to decide to live in two different places for some time.
Daughter: Two different places??
Son: What about us then?
Mother: Wait wait, let me elaborate. You are not going to stay alone in any way, alright?
Each of us will still be there with you.
Father: Yes, we have decided to take either of you with us. Like, if I get shifted to some other
place, then you, or your sister, anyone can come with me and the other one is going to stay
with your mother.
Daughter: That means Thomas and I would also get separated Dad?
Son: No dad. This is not happening. Please. Is this my fault? I promise you dad I will listen
every words of yours. I will also stop going to play with Jimmy and Richard.
Mother: No dear, we have some adult issues and none of these is any of yours fault. You are
not the reason behind our problems and also, none of you could change or fix them dear.
Father: Yes. No matter what, do know that your mom and dad love you very much. The kind
and the amount of love that we both hold for two of you is the kind and the amount that is
never ending. We will always be your parents and we will continue to take care of you.
Daughter- I know Dad. Okay do whatever you like to. I have nothing to say but I love my
brother and I am concerned about him. I don’t want to leave him for any one.
Clarie left the dining room.

Son- Yes mom and dad. I too want to stay with Clarie. Now you decide what you want to do.
We both love you a lot and we are against this separation. However, everything is up to you
after all.
Mother: I know it is upsetting you both. In fact we are also upset Son. You might see us
looking depressed or even sometimes, crying. Even we are sad but we are completely Ok and
we are here to take care of you and your sister. I know some things will get changed like
when and how much of time you and Clarie spend with each of us. But there are many things
that will remain the same. Like for example, you will still be going to the same school and
could see your friends.
Father: I know you feel depressed and whatever you and Clarie are feeling is absolutely
normal. But try and understand Son. I and your Mom are not happy with one another and this
effecting the relationship of ours negatively.
Son- Everything is up to you.
Thomas left the room; Father and mother are sitting alone.
Max: (Soliloquy) what should I do now? I don’t want my children to get sad. I think Claire is
depressed. She might have never imagined about our separation. But I can’t live any longer
with Alexa. I can’t tolerate the things that she does. I hate Johnson (her boyfriend). How can
a mother, a wife could do this to her family? But I can’t share about this with my children. I
don’t want them to disrespect their mother. After all, I still love Alexa. Oh Chirst! What
should I do now?
Alexa: (Soliloquy) Thomas is still a kid now. This separation would be harming his mental
state and stability. I love my children more than anything else. But living with Max has
become a hectic for me. I can’t stay and spend nights sleeping beside someone whom I don’t
even love anymore. I don’t think Max loves me. He has become so impatient and intolerable.

I have told him many times that Johnson is not my boyfriend and he is simply my friend with
who I like to share things and feelings but I don’t know what is making Max think such a
way. I just want my children to live happily. I think I need to have a talk with Max regarding
this.
Alexa went to Max in the bed room.
Alexa: Listen Max, I think we are hurting our children really bad.
Max: Yeah, I too think so but I don’t think there is any other way. You are no longer happy
with me and therefore, you seek for love outside.
Alexa: I am telling you again Max. Johnson is just my friend. He is nothing more than that. It
is just that he is my young age friend and we were not knowing each other earlier. I know my
limitation and I know what my family means to me. I know you have asked me many times
to end up my relation with Johnson and I have not listed to you. But today, when I saw Clarie
and Thomson bursting into tears in their room, I could not stop myself from rethinking about
the matter. I just want my children to be happy and if their happiness lies in our togetherness,
then I have no issue with that as well.
Max: You mean, you will stop talking with Johnson?
Alexa: Yes Max. If you say, then I will no longer talk to Johnson from now on. My family is
my first priority.
Max: (hugging Alexa) let us go and tell Clarie and Thomson about this. I believe they would
be really happy hearing that their parents are not separating anymore. They are really sad.
Nobody wants separation and separation have an immense negative effect on the minds of the
children.
Alexa: Yes, Let’s go.
