Introduction
The WHS is a certification that provides the guidance about the safety standards of the
company. The same was checked in Australian Hardware Company that makes tools such as
those of gardening tools, construction tools. The WHS has studies certain incidents in the
company and based on that they are making certain policies to ensure that the employees are
safe and healthy. Moreover, the policies are made in accordance to cover all the internal and
external issues of the company. The Wollongong retail store has introduced a certain policy
for the safety of its employees. The same is inspired from and applied nationwide. There are
plans to introduce training sessions to the employees to make them understand the
importance of the safety and hygiene.
The company’s goals were also considered to make it a global leader and increase sales. The
officials have been meeting with the auditors to check the previous issue and make policies to
improve the work culture.

Assessment 1
1. Review the Australian Hardware scenario in Appendix 1
As per the standards of the WHS, the Australian Hardware has been providing with a lot of
hardware services to the people, but at the same time, they are not able to keep up with the
safety and health of the employees working there. The company has been into so much
hardware and lifting of the heavy machinery thus resulting in frequent injuries in the factory.
It is required by the officials to make proper safety measures in order to avoid fatal injuries
and accidents in the factory (Averill, 2016). Moreover, there is a need to keep a record by the
officials to keep in the record the safety and health features in the company. The legal and
ethical compliances are also needed to be maintained.
WHS has provided certain measurement criteria in order to maintain the safety and check the
health and well being in the workplace. The safety of the workplace is the duty of the
officials to maintain and failing to do so will affect the health of the employees and reduce
productivity. Australian Hardware has also been using hazardous materials to prepare the
equipment that is also one of the point noted by the officials to check the health parameters of
the company that has been deteriorating constantly (Borchard, et. al. 2012).
2. Review the Australian Hardware simulated business information in Appendices
2–5.
The Australian Hardware has been developing a different kind of products that include the
products in gardening, home improvement, house maintenance, building, and constructions.
They are all based upon a few goals, they are to increase the production and increase the sales
in the market and thus becoming market leaders, maintaining the operational cost in the
system. This is all done by making a proper marketing plan. This plan involves all types of
officials from all the departments that are sales, retail, marketing, finance, human resources
(Briscoe, et. al, 2012). Apart from that, the Australian Hardware has been following the
Wollongong policy to maintain the ethical and legal structures to maintain the health and
safety of the employees. This policy involves discussion with the senior management to
mark down the needs in the system, and then giving proper training to the officials and
making they understand the importance of the same in future (Briscoe, et. al, 2012).

3. Research WHS management systems (WHSMS) to determine the features for an
appropriate WHS management system to propose for Australian Hardware
 As per the WHS management system, the policies that are needed to be included are-
 There should be internal auditing of the system.

 WHS training and induction is done for all officials
 WHS planning and programming
 In order to amend the existing policies the Australian officials are needed to be trained
properly to check the health and safety standards in the system and improve working
conditions (Doyle, et. al, 2013).
 The major responsibility is the officials should make effective use of the opportunity to
improve it continuously and effectively. Next, they can make the subordinates also work in
accordance to make workplace healthy and safe.
 Financial resources required are discussed by the senior members, the sales head, finance
head, human resource head; associated team leads (Doyle, et. al, 2013).

4. Amend the Wollongong Store WHS policy to apply nationally.
In order to amend the Wollongong policy the implementation can be done globally, this is
done by following the ethical and legal rules by both the company and the officials-
 The safety standards should be measured regularly by the officials
 The health checkups should be done to avoid any hazard that has been in the system for long
(Fabius, et. al, 2013).
 Maintenance of the quality of the products and the machinery used in the system
 For employees, it is important that they maintain the rules specified by the Wollongong
committee.
 They should follow all the safety measures and features to see the value of the same in the
system
 The periodic analysis to check the adherence of the team should be done (Fabius, et. al,
2013).

5. Develop a report on the proposed WHSMS.
Introduction - The Australian Hardware has been using certain safety measures to deal with
the security and safety issues in the system, thus this can be done by following the different
policies specified by the WHS and adhering to them. The responsible officials are also
mentioned and the budget is discussed to see the requirements in the current policy. This is to
overall develop a safe and healthy environment.
The different policies introduced by WHS are-
 They believe in conservation of the likelihood
 They evaluate the risk levels in the company and eliminate them
 They check all the factors creating the risk and making certain policies to maintain the work.
 The document the whole process and do internal auditing of the same (Thomas, 2012).
The required amendments to the policy include all the features that were not being taken care
of by the officials earlier.
 Proper documentation of the cases that have happened in the past
 There should be internal audits done by the team to check the current position of the
workplace
 There should be a team assigned to guard and check the adherence to the policies (Feige, et.
al, 2013).
It is the duty of the entire senior as well as the junior members of the company that has been
affecting the WHS of the company. The designated officials in the process to check the

 General Manager- They check the basic health, safety and well being of the organization
 National health Manager- They check the health and safety of all the sister organizations
associated with them
 Execution Manager- They are the people directly associated with the execution of the WHS

As per the requirement in the Wollongong store in the Australian Hardware, there has been a
need to apply a new policy the plan was discussed with the people around. Then the policy
has been discussed with the people ranging from senior management to the junior executives.
The new plan includes-
 Learning the issues from the past and documenting the issues in a proper report.
 Gathering proper resources in implementing the policy
 Checking the quality of the security standards and improving the same as required by the
conditions of the team.
 Then doing health checkups and applying the same period in the process.
 Checking the safety equipment
 Preparing proper guidelines to be followed by the team respectively (Gahan, and Evans,
2014).

the previous Assessment Task.
The assessment tasks in this section are discussing the culture and the practices of the
Australian Hardware, there are certain policies that are needed to be followed by the
organization in order to maintain the health and safety of the organization. Moreover, the
organization has been focussing on the Wollongong policy to nationally make it a safe
workplace to work upon. The whole procedure will be done according to a marketing plan
and the assigned duties are discussed by the senior management going along with the all the
members and the corresponding employees. The process is to make sure all the employees
follow the safety instructions and maintain the quality of the work environment. The same is
applicable to all the employees and has to adhere to all the safety issues whenever they enter
the organization. This whole process is to increase the sales of Australian Hardware and
make it a market leader (Gahan, and Evans, 2014).

3. Develop a policy and procedure/s for WHS risk management
The organization is now making a policy in order to make the Australian Hardware a safe
work environment in order to do so, there are certain policies that are being made by the
officials, they are to adhere with the legal and legislative work culture of the organization-
 The organization is now focussing more on risk assessment that is done initially by
identifying the risk, take accurate resources to fight them, make a proper assessment
procedure to deal with it, discuss with the seniors and the stakeholders, then finally
implementing the same in the system, reviewing and improvising the same (Goetzel, et. al,
2014).
 The new process is made to adhere to all the declared security standards to the Wollongong
as well as the WHS committed to make it a healthy and safe work environment.
 A team has been made in order to check the employee’s safety and security and penalize the
ones not following the same.
 The hierarchy has been made equally responsible to check the standards of the company; this
is done by making a proper safety measure technique and allocating budget to apply the same
in Australian Hardware (Goetzel, et. al, 2014).

Part B
1. Arrange with your assessor to meet with the Wollongong workgroup health and safety
representative (HSR). Prepare to collect information on worker concerns and
effectiveness of existing controls for risk.
After the occurrence of so many health issues, it was seen that there have been certain issues
faced by the worker during their day to day work at Australian Hardware. One of them is the
constant heat pressure affecting the respiratory system of the team. There are many kinds of
chemicals used in the processing of the tools and their processes. There are certain electrical
fittings that are loose, thus this is affecting the day to day activities of the organization. There
is a need for basic safety checks like gloves, waste treatments, water treatment, safety shoes
and helmets (Kafel, 2016).
2. In a role-play, meet with the Wollongong HSR
In the meeting with the HSR of Wollongong, it was identified that the same will be done by
measuring the current safety issues and then making proper resources to meet with the other
policies in the same. The meeting with HSR guided about the certain issues that have to be
checked, like the basic safety equipment in the factory, treatment of the water and air levels
of the factory, periodic checking of the electrical equipment in factory and treatment of the
chemical waste before disposing of them. The role play was also focussing on the various
issues that were previously happening in the organization and what was the response of the
officials in those situations and what more could have been done in order to give maximum
response to the affected people. The adherence to the legislative policies of Wollongong was
also discussed in the process. This was all done to make proper future policies (Kafel, 2016).
3. Identify and seek expert advice for some aspect of planning or implementation of WHS
risk management or WHS legislation

As per the discussion with all the experienced people around, it was found that there are
certain places that are needed to be worked upon as per the WHS standards, thus the outcome
gave us following places to work upon.
 The treatment of all the chemicals in the system and then making sure the same process is
done every time.
 Designing the fixtures and fittings in the way in order to comply with all the desired safety
measures.
 Filter the air quality and maintain the noise and air pollution of the factory.
 Medical facilities are also needed to be updated, like the preliminary facility to check the
patient, facility for serious injuries, medicines available for basic needs in the system (Kafel,
2016).
 Staffing levels should also be according to the needs of the system, there should be proper
training given to the officials and the team members to check that they are well versed with
the safety policy of the WHS policies like Work safe act.
4. Arrange with your assessor to meet with the Wollongong Store Manager. Prepare to
discuss worker concerns and possible actions to take
As per the discussion with the Wollongong store manager, there were certain problems that
workers were facing earlier but not able to get any solution on the same, a few of them are
written under as per NSW Codes of Practice-
 The workers were facing constant heat issues and that was giving them strong respiratory
problems and skin issues. The teams are now applying gadgets for cross ventilation and
treatment of air in the factory (Zanko, and Dawson., 2012).
 The labor was facing issues working under heavy machinery and then there is always the
danger of getting while working under heavy machinery, thus as per NT Codes of Practice to
eliminate that issue heavy duty cranes and pulleys have been introduced in the factory (Kapp,
2012).
 There were a lot of chemical and other gases emitting in the factory thus affecting the
respiration and the health of the workers constantly. This has to lead to many causalities in
the past. Thus the teams are now introducing the filters and treatment plants in different
levels of the company to reduce the toxicity level in the air. This has been done in all the
sections of the plant to help in getting fresher air in the organization (Kapp, 2012).

explain and use your procedures to assess and record actions taken to control WHS
risks. Discuss the expert advice you researched or received
In the assigned role play when the discussion was done with Wollongong officials the same
was done to discuss the various factors that have been affecting the whole procedure of the
safety and health. In order to see the adherence to the safety standards it was seen that in spite
of many policies and regulations the team is not following the basic conducts (Leroy, et. al,
2012), thus to measure that there has been a separate team to check the problems, a team will
check the electrical and mechanical maintenance, a team will follow the air and water filter
guidelines, another will do the periodic health checkups of the workers.
The same will be recorded properly as per Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) in the
designed MIS of each department, and then a periodic review of the same should be done to
see the effective applicability of the same in the organization. These all the methods and
techniques are then further discussed with all the respective team members and the seniors in
order to get permission for the desired budget for future plans made by the development team
members. This will be helpful in avoiding the fatalities and causalities in future (Leroy, et. al,
2012).

6. Develop a plan to implement appropriate measures to control risk
In order to measure the risk measures in the system, there are certain measures as per
Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (WA) made to implement the same in the system.
Timelines- There are proper timelines set to measure the proper following of the policy, they
are – every week maintenance of the equipment, everyday air and water check, every month
health check-up, the same was reviewed and implemented.
Resources- The resources for the same has been collected and implemented in the system
and all the respective stakeholders are contacted and trained to follow the policies.
Action plan- The action plan has been made to, first of all, identify the needs of the
company, understanding the needs of the company, collecting the resources and applying the
same effect in the system.
New policy introduction – Some new policies have also been introduced in the system, like
regular medical checkups in the company to see the health status of the employees (Leroy, et.
al, 2012).
Meeting with the General Manager- There was a meeting with the General Manager also
done in order to see the feasibility of the new policies in the system.
Three monitoring activities- The electrical, health and the air, water facilities are monitored
by the measuring appliances in the system and then recording the same and reviewing
regularly.
Reporting to do the compliance with WHS policies–In order to check the compliance of
the policies in the organization, it is required to see the workers and the machinery
performances regularly in the organization (Leroy, et. al, 2012).

Assessment 3
1. Review the Australian Hardware scenario in Appendix 1.
In the Australian Hardware, the major work done was the creation of the tools and the
hardware equipment for the gardening, maintenance, constructions. Based on the WHS
quality standards it is found that there have been so many incidences in the system, this has
led to so many fatal injuries in the past. This is mainly due to not following the safety
regulations followed by the employees in the system. By studying the basic structure of the
company it was found that the company was lacking in following the basic safety structure
like wearing gloves, helmets and frequent checking of the machinery and maintaining the
quality of the air and clean water supply to check the facility. The same goes for the
sanitation facility of the system.
2. Review the Australian Hardware simulated business information in the appendices of
Assessment Task 1 and WHSMS documentation and planning you developed in
Assessment Tasks 1 and 2.
Learning about the various problems faced by the workers in the system it was found that the
WHS norms were not being followed by the company, thus following the Wollongong
process it was found that the same was difficult to apply. Thus the team of professionals has
been making a plan to implement proper safety process to see the implementation of the same
in the process. This includes health, safety and security check of the same in all the parts of
the company. There has been a designated budget to see the effective application of the WHS
policies in the system.
The feedback from the labor helped in making timeline based reporting system to check the
effective application if the policy and then the tea seniors are following the same guidelines
to check whether the workers are safe and healthy. After that, it is found that senior
management also has some great ideas to be implemented in order to make the workplace a
very safe and secure one. This is all to increase the sales eventually.
3. Review the Australian Hardware national WHS data in Appendix 2
In the further discussion of the team with the Australian Hardware, it was found that the
company’s mission it was found that the company has been facing many issues regarding the
incidents happening with the safety and maintenance in the company. After the Wollongong
store, the same was applied to different in order to see the effect of the same in other parts of

the world. It was found that many countries have been facing some issues with workers
getting hurt and accidents have been happening around the world. There were many
incidences happening due to the carelessness of the officials in the system.
There were cases of worker hurting their backs using the lawnmower, there was an incident
in which the whole stack of heavy material falls on the workers resulting in heavy injuries
and fractures to them. There were a few cases of chemical burns faced by some of the labor
staff, thus the preliminary medical care was taken by them, but that was mainly due to the
disciplinary issue amongst the people. They were strongly penalized by the authorities. Apart
from that due to strong working conditions there were a few cases of depression amongst the
people. The same was taken care by the company officials with the help of psychological
help.
4. Read and analyze the data.
In the appendix, it was observed that there have been many factors affecting the safety of the
people around. There have been many cases of people hurting their backs while lifting heavy
appliances and some of the labors also got hurt when they carrying more than the allocated
weight on their back. Some of the employees hurt their hands while giving the demo to the
customers using blenders and the sharp blades cut their hands resulting in small injuries.
Also, some of the employees were facing the depression issues in the whole scenario due to
work pressure in the workplace (Loeppke, et. al, 2015).

5. Develop an evaluation report
Introduction- The WHS policy has been focussing upon all the ethical and legislative
features that have been providing a proper guidance to maintain the health and hygiene in
Australian Hardware. In order to apply the policy properly, there are certain record keeping
activities has been introduced in order to apply the policies of the WHS.
In order to do proper record keeping, there has been following activities and that have been
kept in mind to keep the record and amend the current policies-
Recommendations
 MIS should be maintained every day to keep the record of the day to day adherence to the
safety measures by the team. The same was understood in order to make sure that the quality
is not degrading every day.
 Another level of recording is the checking of the quality done by the external auditors and the
result they deliver from the same. In order to check the facility, they are reports are checked
with previous year’s data to check the improvement or decrement of the quality.
 Another level of record keeping is done by the senior members of the organization, they take
the reports from the internal and the external teams analyze the same and make protective
measures accordingly(Loeppke, et. al, 2015).
According to above record-keeping practices, it was found out that according to the following
legislation in the nations, there are certain needs to record the daily activities of the
organization in order to maintain the quality standards of the system. The record keeping is
important to tell the whole hierarchy about the view of the current scenario that has been
followed by individuals. The related legislative acts are-

Conclusion- As per the description of the acts provided by the system it was found that the
acts are being made to be followed by all the employees of the nation. This is important to
know the fact that the safety check has been successfully applied in the organizations and the
periodic checks has been done to see the status. All the senior members are involved in
marinating the quality of the work (Loeppke, et. al, 2015).

The entire above plan has been designed in order to maintain the safety and the workplace in
Australian hardware, in order to avoid the issues that were there in the previous times, there
are certain policies that have been introduced (Ojeleye, et. al, 2013). The timelines have been
decided to reviews them every now and them. Moreover, there are also corrective measures

7. Create a plan for a typical training or safety induction session
In order to have a safe workplace and maintaining the safety standards of the company, it is
required to provide the proper training to the system, in order to do that following plan has
been made by the team-
Policies – The team was trained about the current policies that focus on the workplace safety
and health management of the workers. These policies include the safety measures like
wearing protective gear etc. the certification has been provided in order to check the quality
standards of the system (Robson, et. al, 2012).
Policy adherence- In order to reduce the accidents caused by heavy weighty lifting the
company has introduced minimum weight standards for all the labor working under these
conditions (Ojeleye, et. al, 2013). Anyone being forced to do so will be penalized strictly.
Aim and objective- The companies basic aim is to make sure all the employees are working
under safe and secure environment, moreover, there are periodic checks being done in order
to see that whether all the rules are being followed or not. The objective is to achieve a good
market position in the nation and this should go along with the safe work environment
(Ojeleye, et. al, 2013).
Target Audience- The target audience to implement the plan are all the senior managers that
allocate the work to the employee, the human resource manages, the production manager, the
CEO, along with all the employees of the factory.
There has been a special training session done in order to train the employees the following
things-
 Wear safety gear
 Avoid excessive heat environment
 Maintain the quality of air and water
 Regular health check-ups
 Escalating all the serious issues to the management to WHS organization.

Conclusion
The whole focus of the WHS was to make the Australian Hardware a safe workplace to work
on. For that, there are certain policies implemented by the WHS in collaboration with the
Wollongong retail store. The policies were made to make sure that the employees are
following the safety equipment and are adhering to the policies that were focussed upon the
issues faced by the labors earlier including the issues like electrical issues, chemical
emissions, biological emissions.etc. There has been a team assigned in order to make sure the
policies are being followed by all the employees. There were special training sessions made
to train all the senior professionals and the employees and enlightening them about the safety
features of the company.
