Introduction
Trees are one of the greatest assets of the environment. Trees are used to manufacture many
useful products. The forest industries department in Australia generates a very large amount of
revenue for the country. The forestry department generates around 23 billion dollars every year
and provides employment to around 70,000 people in Australia. The following case study which
has been selected is of a tree corporation which grows trees, manufactures products from the
trees and sell them to customers. The Australian Tree Corp. is a 3-year-old organization who
grows trees in order to use those woods to sell and earn profit from the market. The corporation
has 200,000 ha of land and grows almost 5 million trees a year. The organization has roots in the
American Tree farming industries and the organization has earned a very decent amount of profit
in the last 2-3 years in the Western Australia region. Due to some of the atmospheric challenges
in the previous year the growing and cutting of the grown trees have not been so easy and that is
why for the safeguard of the implementation of the tree of different plans are needed.

Project background
Australia has a very excellent quality of lands for maintaining the forest industry. For growing
the trees and manufacturing products from them is a very tough task due to environmental
conditions. The Australian government also supports the forest industries so that they could
generate good revenues. The wood corporations in Australia contribute around 0.59%-0.78%
increase to the GDP of Australia.
The Australian Tree Corporation has been a very good contributor to the economic scale of
Australia from the past 2-3 years. The organization was established three years ago and has been
a known industry from then. The organization has been profitable from the beginning itself due
to the tactics used. The ATC has been the organization who has started the process of growing
the trees then they manufacture the product from it and then supply the product to the suppliers
and the customers. This has been a very great step taken by the organization.
Project goal
The forest industries in Australia which grow wood and manufacture different products from it
have the main priority to earn profit but there are goals which they have to reach for becoming a
known organization. The primary purpose of ATC is the production of commercial wood but the
growing of woods would also improve the number of logs harvested each year in Australia.
The industrial plantations also provide many environmental services too for that particular
region. The plantations of trees in large amount restrict the soil erosion, maintains the
atmospheric temperature rate and many other benefits too. The plantation enhances employment
in that region.
The main goals of the organization are:
 Provide engineered products to the customers.
 Pharmaceutical and medical products generation.
 Replace fossil fuels and make products which can be recycled.
 Technologically more advanced in the sector than others.

 Use of techniques which could provide greater output and value to the country.
These are goals on which the ATC is dependent and analyze the working of the organization
according to these goals.
Project objectives
The objective is to grow the forest industry and products. The organizations always work under
definite objectives. The ATC has always been an objective oriented organization and the
objectives are to use the resources smartly and implementation of the advanced technologies are
very much essential for the organization.
The ATC wants to manufacture products from the wood they generate and also supply those
products to the suppliers or to the customers. The ATC wants to become an organization who
would pick the order from the doorstep and provide the fully manufactured product at the
doorstep of the customer.
The main purpose of the organization is to invest in the innovations, research and the increase in
the value of the wood. The ATC is observing for the development of the policies of the
organization for the development of the product and services with the help of technology and
increase productivity with advanced and better technology.
The ATC is trying to invest more money in the research and development department and the
management sector in order to implement new innovations for better results and outcome and
also earn a good amount of profit.
Project deliverable
The organization has developed targets and will deliver the products in the market which could
help them earn a profit. The ATC has targeted to produce timber for developing the houses and
grow chipped woods for the production of paper and fuels for the boilers. The product
outsourcing has been a very critical issue in this part of the country because the organizations
which grow woods doesn’t convert it into products and if they do so they don’t supply it to the
customers and that is why the ATC has developed plans so that they could easily grow the wood
and manufacture products from them and then supply it to the customer.

These are the deliveries that the ATC has promised to provide to the people of the market. The
project which the organization has planned to implement provides these outcomes if the plans are
executed well.
Strategic alignment of project
There are five major strategies that the ATC is implementing in its process of working in order to
derive the project into a success. The strategies are:
 Promotion of the use of wood and wood products, the importance of tree for the
environmental conditions and the atmospheric benefits because of using wooden
products.
 Research and development for the production of new and better products and the
extension of the business and earn a profit.
 The steps implemented to grow the industry capacity by growing the number of educated
and skilled employees so that they could generate good quality products.
 The development of the management system in order to increase the coordination with
the market and increase the market acceptance of the product in the market.
 The most important step to be implemented for the growth of the organization is the
economic and the statistic coordination of the organization with the market.

Project Schedule
Project requirements
There are certain factors which are to be identified, measured, examined & controlled effectively
for enhancing the completion of the whole project of “Community-based Natural Resource
Management” in an effective & in an efficient manner. The strategic project plan which is to be
developed by the Australian Tree Crop should include & consider the essential elements for the
effective discussion regarding each & every aspect appropriately. Following are the basic
requirements of the project which should be considered effective by the project managers:
Scope: Identifying the scope of the whole project is very necessary for setting up & achieving
the suitable SMART goals with the help of which the clear vision can be communicated to all the
employees & they can work more effectively in achieving the defined goals. Every employee
should be communicated with the overall scope of the project for enhancing the long term
growth & development (Simpson, et.al. 2012).
Communication: Without proper communication, none of the business organization can be able
to accomplish its defined goals. All the relevant, as well as the necessary information related to
the project, should be properly & completely communicated to all the people working within the
business organization of Australian Tree Crop. Effective communication also develops a higher
level of confidence among employees.
Resources: All the technological, human as well as the natural resources should be effectively
utilized by the business managers of Australian Tree Crop for ensuring the sustainable
development within the business organization of Australian Tree Crop for the longer period of
time. The project of “Community-based Natural Resource Management” will help the whole
business organization to effectively & efficiently utilize the limited available natural resources,
which are being considered as the core resources of the company. It has been identified that the
company should work upon the utilization of technological resources for eliminating the activity
of outsourcing (Karim Jallow, et.al. 2014).

Budget/ cost: The proper allocation of the overall amount available with or invested by the
business organization is very essential for enhancing the whole project within the standard
amount of money or cost. The company has already decided about the budgeted amount for
investigation which includes the amount of 10,000 Dollars, which should be communicated to all
the employees so that they can cope up with all the activities & tasks by considering this
budgeted amount.
Time limit: Setting up the time limit is very necessary for the effective completion of the whole
project effectively & efficiently. All the employees should understand that each project has a
certain time limit & all the projects are temporary in nature. Therefore, all the small activities, as
well as the tasks, should be completed within the given time limit for accomplishing the whole
project within the standard time period (Reid, 2016).
Risk: The proper evaluation of all the risks associated with the project is very necessary so that
the business managers can take up & execute the effective measures for reducing the higher level
of risks in an effective as well as in an efficient manner. A higher level of risk is being found as
the project includes natural resources. All the trees which were being manufactured by the
company include the risk of being damaged by the major reasons for flooding, attacking of the
insects, cyclone, the mortality of the trees & many more. Hence, the project should be ensured &
enhanced by considering all the factors of risk for eliminating the concept of loss.

Work/ process breakdown schedule
The effective process of work breakdown structure helps the business organization of Australian
Tree Crop to create, develop & accomplish all the activities & the whole project with the help of
the small groups. Each & every activity should be identified by the business organization &
should be effectively communicated to all the organizational employees so that they can be very
well known about the essential aspects & related factors including the budget, cost, time,
resources & many more. The work breakdown structure of the Australian Tree Crop is being

After determining the small activities or tasks within the work breakdown structure, all these
activities are being effectively presented in the Gantt chart which is very helpful for the whole
business organization in displaying all the activities & effectively communicating all of them to
all the employees. The colorful bars are being utilized by the business managers in the chart for
differentiating all the activities in an effective manner. This tool is being utilized by the company
for communicating all the complex activities or tasks to the employees in an easy manner for
increasing the level of organizational productivity & proficiency in an appropriate manner

Milestones
Scheduling of milestones is a very effective process or concept for increasing the growth &
development of the whole business organization. The milestones are also being included under
the whole comprehensive plan of project management related to all the activities being displayed
under the work break down structure & Gantt chart. The limit of the available time period is also
estimated by taking the major help of milestones for accurately accomplishing the project
management plan of “Community-based Natural Resource Management”. The scheduling of

Limits and exclusions
Certain limitations were also being identified, even after implementing the various effective
tools. Some of the founded limitations include the outsourcing of activities such as the cutting &
producing of trees, lack of accountability in relation to the number of trees produced & sold, etc.
Risk management
The forest industries in Australia are one of the major contributors to the economy of the
country. Likewise other organizations and industries the ATC also works under complex
environments and need to implement different steps in order to overcome the risks and maintain
the international competition in a better manner.in a forest industry the risks are from available in
a very vast range from the forest resources to the wood products and various forest-based
products. The involvement of political parties is a major factor. The ruling party could intervene
and restrict the business. The problems related to the jurisdiction are one of the main problems
that could arise due to government intervention. The taxation system is also an issue if the
taxation charges increase the organization would face revenue and value problems. The
organizations believe in the cash flow system and thus the investment in every required place is
operated by cash and if any loss occurs the result would be insufficient funds for the organization
and these risks are needed to be managed well. The organizations in order to manage risks
