1. EXPLAIN WHAT ARE THE AVIATION SECURITY EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS (ON
AIRSIDE AND LANDSIDE)
A. Maintaining security system in the airport is very much important for both the
passengers and airport authority. Various incidents have been happened such as plane
hijack, blasting and many more, which demanded more security analysis on airside and
landside. Different security equipment has been used to ensure the safety of the passenger
and aeroplane on both land and airside. The description of the security equipment
requirements in AIRSIDE have been described below:
Metal detector: Metal detector is the equipment used to detect the metal, which can cause
harm to other and to the aeroplane. This metal detector is work based on the pulse
induction system. There are two types of metal detector have been used in aviation such
as walk through metal detector and full body scanner. This scanner helps to reduce the
threat of keeping any harmful metal that can cause the accident.
Explosive detection machines: This machine is used to detect the explosive material if
carried by any passenger or kept in the airport zone. In recent year explosive detection
system for cabin baggage system has implemented to protect the airplane and passenger
from the explosion (Kierzkowski, 2016).
Millimeter wave scanner: This machine has been used to detect the material beneath the
clothes. This machine generates an electromagnetic radiation.
Backscatter x-ray: This machine has been used to identify the hidden weapons and
explosive materials carried by the passengers. This machine emitted various rays called
Compton scattering and when the passenger stand very close to the machine this rays able
to detect the hidden weapons and explosive.
Baggage detection machine: this machine is also used to check the luggage of the
passenger by using the computer tomography system. This scanner is a hollow tube,
which surround the bags to detect any unwanted materials.
In addition, various special zones have been identified within airport, which has restricted

The major concerning factors which is causing public to create pressure on Aviation
sector for implementing security procedures in airports and mandate security
requirements for air carriers. The most important is to increase security to eliminate
incidences of hijacking. The performance of security systems are evaluated for
determination of both its suitability and effectiveness. Effectiveness is determined as the
capability of detecting threat objects and is dependent on capabilities of system
technology.
Landside security requirements system includes:
Additional security inspection checkpoint is required at the point of entrance and
outside the terminal to protect the passenger.
Blast proof and shatterproof glasses required to protect the passenger from any
type of uncertain attack.
In order to reduce the chances of shooting and bombing airport authority can
reduce the access area such as lounge, terrace (Gormley and Irminger, 2015).
CCTV is also there to check the every movement of the passengers inside and
outside the airport.
Passengers are also have the permission to launch complain against any suspicious
element outside the terminal.
Numerous police officers and behavior detection officers are also there.
It is necessary to integrate information from policymakers, intelligence
community, air carriers and airports for determination of level of threat towards
civil aviation.
From the above description, it can be said that aviation needs more high security
system to reduce the accidents on both airside and landside. Above described
machines are very much required in the airside and landside needs proper surveillance
to avoid the uncertain attack. CCTVs are needed in every corner so that every move
can be checked properly and fire extinguisher is required to ensure the security. These
procedures need thorough screening, which includes additional baggage inspection,
identification checks and passenger questioning.
