Scholarly writing and plagiarism
Introduction
Paraphrasing is the way of using a text in personal writing without quoting source material
directly. In paraphrasing any time an information is taken one need to specify the origin of the
information. The aim of paraphrase is to represent an already recorded information in new and
summarized form. Paraphrasing develops some skill to the writer which helps him/her to curb
the temptation to quote and also improves the mental process required for successful
paraphrasing as the writer grasp the full meaning of the original information (Androutsopoulos &
Malakasiotis, 2010).
For a writer to gain effectiveness in paraphrasing he/she must reread original information and
gain comprehension of its meaning. After rereading a note card is generated and information
described in anew and understandable form. Some examples of paraphrasing include; legitimate,
an acceptable and plagiarized version. The ability to paraphrase can be said to be a skill of high
value to every person and it’s not that every writer has the capability to paraphrase properly
(Hirvela, 2013).
Plagiarism is referred to as the academic dishonesty and journalist’s ethics breach. Using the
modern concepts plagiarism can be said to be immoral and originality .many of the written work
is highly affected by the plagiarism and the work loses its originality.
Grammarly is an online tool which has facilitated to well neatness and makes the work of the
writer more understandable. When paraphrasing the writer may use incorrect words and
preposition but using the Grammarly tool the work becomes perfect and understandable

Scholarly writing and plagiarism
As well-known paraphrasing is a tool that mostly is applied in scholarly writing. This a tool
that requires skills in implementation as many writers are affected by plagiarism which leads to
poor academic integrity. During paraphrasing, the writer should present the work researched in
his/her own words. The paraphrased work should in a way portray originality. (Berant & Liang,
2014 ).
Discussion
Scholarly writing is also referred to as the academic writing and it is writing the genre that is
implemented in all the academic sectors. Taking an example of a nurse who is upgrading in
his/her education, in the research done most of the work done involves paraphrasing. One needs
to acquire the skills needed when paraphrasing so as to avoid affection and poor work due to
plagiarism. Also, the nurse as a writer needs to be very keen so as he/she can deliver
understanding to the reader.to achieve perfection in this some of the steps in paraphrasing needs
to be used (Barrón-Cedeño et al,2013).
Recommendation
Paraphrasing alone cannot lead to 100% academic integrity that is required in scholarly
writing .some tools such as free mind need to include to achieve the level of academic integrity
required in writing.FreeMind helps the writer in converting the original work into his own work
and avoid copying the already done work. Another tool is the use of Doecer which is said to be
said to be the humble modification of the free mind. This tool helps the writer to organize, write
and find academic literature. Other tools needed include bubbles and coggle.
