Introduction
The social issue selected for the given case equality between men and women in the society. This
issue is prevailing worldwide since decades that is causing major problem for women in
successfully living their lives. The major reason for selection of this type of issue is that this type
of issue takes the right to freedom from females on the society. Worldwide women are fighting
for the rights and social justice that is giving power to many women living is isolated areas to
rebuke towards the negative actions laid against them. Service learning is a different type of
concept that helps in understanding various issues with practical and in depth knowledge (Amis,
Munir, Lawrence, Hirsch, & McGahan, 2018).
Community Organization
The organization selected for the assessment is AWID (Association for Women in
Development). The organization is an international, feminist organization that is committed to
achieve gender equality and sustainable development of the women rights as well. AWID is a not
for profit organization that is based in Cape Town and works in the international market. The
organization was established in the year 1982 by both men and women who work around the
globe to help women to fight for their rights. The organizations believes that women have the
power to fight for their rights and win as well but they require one push from the back to face the
real world. So, the organization represents the whole community of women and fight on their
behalf. The organization has been a part of feminist ecosystem from past 35 years as is aiming to
achieve gender justice (AWID, 2018).
The vision of the organization is to create an environment where resources and power is equally
shared in way that provide opportunity to everyone to grow and compete in the race of living.
AWID initiates their motive by campaigning, influencing and advocating about the events. The
organization tries to build bridges and increase art and creative expression so that people are
attracted towards the movement and the opponents get offended in a positive way. The
organization does not put down one section of the society in order to raise the standards of other
one. The organization meets the community needs by building feminist economies and
resourcing feminist movements. Further, AWID also monitor and review the current and

upcoming changes in the rights of women. Further, they make it visible that how anti-rights
actors are operating and colluding in multilateral spaces (Phillips, 2015).
Conclusion
Thus, in the limelight of above mentioned events, the fact should be noted that the above
mentioned report explained the issue of gender equality present worldwide. Many organizations
are collectively working to eliminate this cause from the society as it is barring women from
living their lives peacefully according to their own will. AWID is an organization discussed
above that is working for the women rights and justice in the society. Further, it should also be
noted that service learning provide real life experience to the people. It also makes them more
aware about the social issues present in the society (Ferree, & Zippel, 2015).
