Introduction:
The significance of the selection and recruitment procedures is notably high in the
modern labour and employment market and that is evident with the series of evaluation that
the modern companies are inclined towards prior to the recruitment (Ekwoaba, Ikeije and
Ufoma 2015). The study is based on a job advertisement for the position of the retail
operations manager of a company named as Dyson. At the same time, the study elaborates
the way in which the applicants can demonstrate the required competencies for the position.
Apart from this, the study identifies the selection methods that the human resource managers
are capable of applying for selecting the best suited individuals. Along with that, the study
delivers an important understanding of the design of the job that has the possibility of
providing high satisfaction to me.
Job Analysis:
The selected job is for the position of the retail operations manager. The position
requires the individuals to take care of the operations such as the current operational activities
of the company, asks for visionary leadership, capability of managing the future business
operations of the company and at the same time, the efficient management of the fixture and
the store updates is also an important responsibility for the retail operations manager. With a
precise consideration to the professional requirements for the position, it is understandable
that my experience of playing the role of the team leader in a retail company will certainly
place me in an advantageous position (Fernie and Sparks 2018). On the other hand, the job
advertisement of Dyson is pretty clear in stating the skill requirements such as ability to
inspire the subordinate employees, capability of building strong relationships across the
various departments, efficient technological application management skills, analytical skills,
good communication, multitasking and ability to set the correct priority for the efficient

completion of the tasks. Having said that, I consider my skills of efficient management of the
conflict, project management, listening capabilities and the ability to coach and manage the
subordinate employees of the team to be efficient in making me suitable for the set skill
requirements of the job advertisement. Having said that, the professional developmental
needs for me in managing the role of the retail operations manager will be the efficient
management of the skill of creative thinking and the ability to contribute to the training and
development of the subordinate employees. Considering the leadership, analytical skills and
problem solving skills to be the three main competencies Keevy and Perumal (2014), the
applicants are required to show their experience certificate for elaborating their leadership
skills, are in need to answer questions placed by the interviewers that require to be solved
analytically. Apart from that, the individuals are required to provide evidence of the projects
which they managed with the application of the problem solving skills.
Selection Methods:
With a precise consideration to the literature of the human resource management, it is
evident that the selection methods that are suitable for the recruitment of the retail operations
manager in the selected organization, are structured interviews, telephone, video or skype
interviews along with the work simulations. The structured interview is best suited process
for the company in recruiting efficient individuals for the desired position. With the
application of the structured interview, the companies have the possibility of interacting with
the candidates individually which has the capability to provide considerable amount of
advantage to the human resource managers of the company in assessing the suitability of the
individuals (Kallio et al. 2016). Having said that, the probable candidates in many of the
cases, are seen to be incapable in presenting themselves at the place of interview due to
various causes. In such situation, the application of the telephonic or video interviews are
crucial for the success of the companies in evaluating the suitability of the individuals for a

particular job position. The mentioned technique is of great significance for the modern
companies in achieving better flexibility in recruiting and selecting efficient individuals. For
the selected job advertisement of Dyson, the human resource managers can apply the
telephonic or video based technique as well. Apart from this, the work simulation is seen to
be an important technique that has the potential of offer considerable amount of flexibility to
the human resource managers of the company in analysing the work history of the candidates
before recruiting professionals. The mentioned technique is a crucial technique for the
selection of the candidates for the position of the retail operations manager as it will inform
the human resource managers of Dyson regarding the practical and work based knowledge
that the candidates have.
Job satisfaction:
With a precise consideration to the job advertisement of retail operations manager, it
is evident that the main concern for the individuals recruited for the position of the retail
operations manager, will be the significant pressure of work. The individuals undertaking the
responsibility of managing the position, will be in need to efficiently operate for the
management of the responsibilities such as management of sales, service management,,
efficient management of the employees along with building business network for enhancing
the sustainability of the business activities of the company. In such situation, the scope of
refreshment activities will be significant for enhancing the motivation level and job

On a concluding note, it is evident that job advertisement for the position of the retail
operations manager of Dyson requires specific skill requirements such as the management of
the sales performances of the company, leadership, preparation of the business reports and
handling the customer management activities. Considering the selection techniques, the
human resource managers of the company has the possibility of selecting the individuals with
the application of various techniques such as structured interview, telephonic or video
interviews or work simulations. Other than this, the job satisfaction level of the individuals
responsible for the management of the position is largely dependent on the incorporation of
refreshment activities and provisions of their own training and development activities.
